Hi all,

So yesterday I went to a MTN store to port my Vodacom number to MTN, they told me that for whatever reason, Vodacom is not allowing people to port currently - part me thought it was BS but anyways, this morning, I went to another MTN store and they told me the same story.

Anyone confirm this?

I got my MTN sim, I SMS'd the necessary on my Vodacom SIM and it's been more than 24 hours and still nothing.

Only reasons to decline a port is if it is a contract and the account is in arrears or if the number was ported in the last 3 months or the details MTN put into the system if it is a contract is not correct, ID number or Vodacom account number for example. Good luck with MTN though. Eish.

I left Vodacom to join MTN, biggest mistake ever.

I've been trying to port back to Vodacom but it isn't working for me either..

I ported my main number to MTN from Vodacom a long time ago and I've had no issues.

Now I just want to move my 2nd number.

I was with Vodacom, nightmare of a network. Costs i didn't ask for that they refused to refund, International roaming was broken half the time. I switched to MTN about 6 years ago and its been perfect. No complaints.

Op should keep trying. Prob some way they're trying to make it difficult for you to move out so you'll change your mind.

If you don't mind the long process you can first port to Telkom, in a Telkom store wait for three months and port to MTN.

I have been using both networks for ages and I prefer Vodacom.
Nothing much wrong with MTN but I find that Vodacom is better in coverage and is definitely faster in usage (don't know how Mybroadband always seems to place MTN at number one).

The one area I have to say I have picked up where MTN seems to be doing better is the stability of their network, they are more stable than Vodacom.

Vodacom will act up sometimes, not by much but once in a while and hit speed humps whereas MTN just rides by smoothly.

My experience as well. It took a full month to change an already month-to-month contract to prepaid and then port out to MTN. It's much easier to port a prepaid number compared to a contract.

I know for a fact that my dad went from a contract to a prepaid price plan in a matter of hours after a phone call to customer care back in 2008. Suddenly 2023 you have to wait a whole month with 3 emails and forms to fill in?

I understand that you have to pay for a full month to cancel but why can't they change the status of the sim to prepaid with a flick of a switch in order to do the port?

Do miss the OG Vodacom but that slowly died back in 2016.

Do you know if porting is a general issue now? Been with Afrihost for almost 9 years but recently lost a sim overseas and tried a sim swap but it's been a clown show (still without a sim), so looking to move elsewhere. As many complaints between MTN and Vodacom when I read through posts, so guess I'm certain to be disappointed either way but should be better than the absolute incompetence I'm experiencing currently
