I just came back from setting up a mates phone for the net, he uses Vodacom, so after reading the stories about how much better they are and how bad Virgin is...

Well guess what, it crawled, webpages came up worse than dial-up and downloads were just as bad

I will be looking forward to doing a few more Vodacom installations so I can see just how good (or bad) they really are

BTW Mrs Dragon uses MTN... Which has its problems too, but that is another story

Vodacom's having problems at the moment, generally they're infinitely better than Virgin.

If we look at all the complaints on the VC forum about PPaid sim cards that won't connect, or connect but the speed is slow then it seems to me that to move to VC at this time won't be a good choice. And the big bundles that some guys bought that must be finished in time or they will lose a lot of money. If VC's PPaid service goes on like this they will lose a lot of PPaid customers. :rolleyes:

During this past week i had good GPRS speeds from VM. :)

:) :)

I'm a virgin in Benoni for more than a year now, without any problems, disconnects, or anything. So I guess it just depends in what area you are. I mean I roam on Vodacoms' network, so if I were still with vodacom, I would get the same speeds, cause it's the same tower. So, no matter what anyone says, I am a Virgin!!!! :D

It does not work like that. The Vodacom tower is just passing your signal along to VM. They are not giving you the 'speed'. They are merely the messenger, VM is still your provider – the one giving the ‘speed’ and connectivity.

I have both a VM and a Vodacom (Vlive! enabled) SIM and, in my area at least, I find that VM is generally much more reliable and faster.

Ag sorry Id13. I thought it work like that, but now I know. But I will stay a Virgin, cause for me in this area vc is the same on speed etc. Mtn have edge coverage her, but their pricing is not near virgin.

Try using the Vodacom internet apn, its generally much better than vlive!

What won't they admit exactly?
That the problems are their fault. Always the SIM card, the modem, your phone, because you are inside, the weather ... never the network. Then why is/was there a message on their support line stating there are problems???

I agree it is, but generally not much different to Virgin's vdata APN, except for the notable difference in price. I'm a Virgin until one of the other providers can come up with something significant to change my mind. Imagine a world where your provider compensates you financially for unavailability of services...

Looking back at VM's good GPRS performance the last week, i wonder;

1) During the same time that i had good VM GPRS the last week, some Vodacom prepaid customers (PPDB's)experienced difficulties. (while the VC contract customers had no problems, as well as the VC simcards with no bundle and connecting at R2.00 per meg.)

2)Will my VM GPRS get slower again as soon as their problems are solved, or is this coincidence???

V3G's response on the Vodacom forum;
We're very aware of the problem and are working day and night, with the suppliers of the networking equipment, to resolve these issues.

Who knows, maybe this VC networking equipment upgrade is a good thing for VM regarding bandwidth, or am i completely out of line???

:confused: :confused:

Ja, Vodacom isn't any better and in fact a lot worse with gprs.

They claim always available but don't tell you that their gprs fallback is pathetic.
