I have been experiencing the following intermitent problems:

  1. When I phone my cell from a fixed line I hear a ringtone although the phone doesn't show an incoming call. After a few rings the ringtone stops and I hear the beep-beep you get when a call is disconnected.
  2. Even though diverts to voicemail are turned on I may still get the message "the subscriber you have dialed is not available".
  3. I get message "Connection error" when dialing a number.
Some of these problems seem to be area related. I have verified 1 and 3 with other phones/SIMS as well.

Did you report it to the call desk? You could also mail them.

I did. Initially the lady said it had to be the handset and I had to explain again that I did perform tests on other phones. She then phoned me and got through to my cellphone so she probably didn't believe me. I therefore am a little sceptical as to whether the matter will be taken further. I will try again tomorrow.

Another problem is that GPRS/3G has also behaved strangely. I have been getting the "slashed out" antenna/3G icon a lot lately on my E61.

you could have a general phone problem (loose antenna connection). this will explain why you cannot receive calls and also why you have the 3G problem.

damn stuck between a rock and hard place ... that phone has to go in for surgery .. cos well faulty hardware can cause software to fail ... and vice versa

Typical Vodacom helpdesk response.:D It must be the handset.

If you look at the very first message you'll notice I've experienced the call issues with other phones as well.

Intermittent problems are the worse kind to debug. You tell Helpdesk it doesn't work, they test it it works, so ... "everything on our side is OK".

Are you using a N70?
Then thats a phone problem.
