Vodacom Number Porting

Hi All,

I received this letter from my Service Provider. Vodacom wont port service providers to another Vodacom service provider? Surely this is now illegal ?


Dear Porting Client


Today is a landmark day for our Industry with the launch of Mobile Number Portability across all Networks and Service Providers. We have looked forward to this day for some time now and welcome all enquiries in this regard.

We advise all Vodacom subscribers who have expressed an interest in moving Service Providers while remaining on their Network of choice, namely Vodacom, that this aspect of the porting service is not currently available.

This strategy has been adopted by Vodacom and as a result we are obliged to comply with their plan to only role out Inter SP porting on the Vodacom Network some time in the new year.

Should you urgently require a port from your current Service Provider, you can do so, but you will be required to move to another Network while retaining your 082 number.

It would seem that many subscribers wish to remain loyal to the Vodacom Network and thus we urge you to remain patient until the new year where will be a better position to advise you of the date of the “go live” of this aspect of Mobile Number Portability
 
So port outside the network then back in again in a few months and tell them why you're doing it and that you cant guarantee your return.

Light a fire under their butts. :)
 
So does this mean number portability wasn't fully implemented by 10 November for 20 million people or however many subscribers Vodacom has? Paris? :D
 
I'm sure I saw an announcement that you could port within MTN last year sometime or early this year, before MNP was introduced.
 
According to newspaper reports, porting to other providers within the networks was supposed to be part of the deal. After all, Virgin is not a network, just an enhanced SP. Kick their arses.

Autopage Cellular *spit* printed large adverts in newspapers proclaiming this fact. Earlier this year when I tried to make use of this service to move *away* from Autopage, suddenly it wan't possible anymore.

I had to change my number, but at least I'm rid of them. May they all rot in hell.

Can one then port to a different network and go onto prepaid with that network and then port back onto Vodacom but with a different SP?

Yes, but wont you end up paying more? For instance, you port to MTN, take out a contract with them, which of course is 2 years, and then port back to VC after 2 months... then you must buyout your new 24 MTN contract?
Or won't it work like that?

It probably won't be the case on prepaid.

It would but you could port to MTN prepaid and then port back to Vodacom in 30 days.
 
MMM, sounds like a hassle all this porting...
