Vodacom outgoing mail server not working

I am so frustrated and clueless about what to do. Here's my setup: I have about 20 pc's on my network going through an untangle firewall that scans incomming mail and internet traffic, that ultimately connects to the internet through vodacom 3G using an TP-Link router and a K4505-Z vodafone modem.

I get the following message at least a few times a day on my outgoing mail using smtp.vodamail.co.za : Task 'Johanvv@e????e.co.za - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

While I am getting that error on my vodacom outgoing mail account I have no trouble sending with my gmail account that is also set up on outlook, all other internet traffic is also fine. If I run an outlook test to test the vodacom account, the test is successful, but 95% of emails wont go out. It's also worth stating that I get the same error on all my PC's, I have disabled all antivirus and firewall on the pcs itself and bypassed the untangle server, without any improvement on the problem.

I don't know what to do, I have spent hours with vodacom on the fone, trying to convince them the fault is with their outgoing mail server, and their technicians trying to convince me the problem is not theirs.

The only thing that seems to temporarily solve the issue is rebooting the router, which in my mind means that it must either be the router, the modem or the connection to vodacom that causes the problem, I suspect it is vodacom since emails go out through gmail.

Has anyone else maybe had a similar issue?

Alternative outgoing mail server to smtp.vodamail.co.za

Hi is there an alternative outgoing mail server I can use to vodacom's? This is the third day that I'm unable to send out email through smtp.vodamail.co.za My gmail account works fine through outlook but no company emails can go out. Vodacom is incompetent to deliver tech support.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

Regards,
Johan

To get a domain is like R29 per month, if you have a company and want it to seem professional just pay that 29.... Try companies like texo very decent deals

smtp.mtn.co.za ;)

We had endless problems with (Vodacom) smtp.vodamail.co.za

We had to change to MTN cause of all the kak.
Also try login direct to your vodamail email via:
https://www.vodamail.co.za/vodamail_ui/#home

Does that mean I am going to have to change my service provider to mtn or is it possible to use their mail server on vodacom? If so what authentication settings will I need?

Would be very surprised if you can use smtp.mtn.co.za.

What port are you using for your outgoing mail? 25? Have you tried changing it to 587?

I know that one used to be able to use smtp.saix.net as an open relay server for outgoing mail (tried it once on vodacom and it worked back then). Not sure if they have shut that down, but you could try using that as your outgoing mail server on port 25 with no authentication.

Can't get anything out today, either using the vodacom or vodamail smtp's.

That's exacly my issue, spent about an hour in total with vodacom on the phone this morning still waiting for a technician to phone me again. Does anybody know what the issue is?

Vodacom tech support just gave me a walk-through over the phone of how to setup my emails to go work through gmail's mail server. That is terrible, I can't believe it!!!!

Yes you would have to change your service provider.
Man, I battled for days unsuccessfully trying to get it to work.
Plus this problem has been around for years!!!

Question:

is the email for example: johan@company_name.co.za

?

If it is why not go into advanced & select use same server as incoming mail.

Then by outgoing mail you put same as incoming*.

Could be mail.company_name.co.za
or smtp.company_name.co.za

then if you hook up to your adsl at home your mail will still send/receive with no problems & no changes required.....

Go into e-mail account settings and tick the box Require logon using SPA

This is good advice - I would try this before trying anything else.

Solved: Vodamail Outgoing Mail Server Encyption not supported by server

Hi everyone,

I hope this post will help. I've also struggled a lot with this in the past. This is I did:
1. Go to your mail settings
2. More Settings
3. Outgoing Server
4. Check the box My Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) needs authentication
5. IMPORTANT: instead of using "Use same settings as incoming mail server", go down, and click the radio button "Log onto incoming mail server before sending"

Save settings, test mail account settings. This should work.
