VodaCom Per Meg charge increase?

Has VodaCom increased the charge per MB for GPRS??? Or otherwise they're charging more for users to use MXit. I used to spend maybe R0.10 if I sent ALOT of messages in an hour, and now I'm paying R0.12 for 2 minutes worth of chatting. I checked my itemised report on Vodacom4ME and it says this: (Duration in seconds) 105, (Volume) 60898, (Cost) R 0.12, and I'm pretty sure it didn't used to cost as much as that.

So then how come MXit has been costing me more? Several people had told me about this happening to them but I presumed they were just imagining it. And it's ONLY with MXit (as far as I've noticed at least).
 
You pay per data unit transmitted and/or received, so your cost will be a function of the amount of data transmitted and received by the application. If you see an increase in cost, it'll be because more data is used.

Check with MXiT if they increased something in their protocol.

Also check if you're using their socket or http connection. I don't know MXiT that well, but I believe the http connection is much more data intensive than the socket-based connection. This could well be what you're seeing. But MXiT will know better.

Now if I was in charge of Vodacom I would seriously consider buying Mixit.

It seems like a killer cellphone app ... certainly far more interestingly than that Live junk and dancing meerkat and frog they foist on their customers phones.

Ah, a network operator helping a guy with MXiT this is what I want to see :D Awesomeness, there should be a option to go through to MXiT helpdesk on 111. MXiT is a wonderful application for the mobile device, it should be listed somewhere near the SMS section of a network operator site.

I use SMS messages like once a month now since MXiT. It is so much easier.

..and that's why mobile operators wouldn't exactly want to support it. With messengers you bypass SMS,MMS and if you have beefier phone you basically venture into using the voice+video abilities of messengers [i.e. VOIP] . Thus even bypassing voice-per-minute stuff ;)...basically bypassing all the things a mobile operator typically offers .

Just like im sure Skype on Cellphones can be worrysome to Mobile Operators. All i need is for Skype to get some Skype-IN numbers for South Africa and then i don't need silly MNP or any specific Mobile Operator at all. Then the operator with the most stable and cheapest data service wins.

Is MXiT not jabber-based?

Instant Messaging applications will eventually supersede SMS and it'd be crazy for Vodacom to think otherwise, so rather than trying to block applications like MXiT we're working closely with them to get a even better QoS to you guys.

And they happen to be a nice bunch of guys. :)
