A long time ago, v3g posted about the factors that Vodacom's beanies etc consider when determining pricing of a product or service, what most seem to think in this thread, is that the 3GB Data Bundle price was a mistake, but consider this: what if the idea behind the price is not to encourage loads of people to start using 3GB per month on Vodacom's network and rather to ensure that the capacity of the network is able to keep pace at a slower growth rate, and avoid a huge amount of bandwidth contention issues in a short space of time.
It makes sense to me, I just think that everyone is too blinkered to see that some thought might have gone into the 3GB Data Bundle pricing with a view to trying to protect QoS for existing Vodacom customers, and consider that if Vodacom and South Africa as a whole was not held hostage by Telkodemonopolies then things would likely be quite different - although one also needs to factor in the rate at which new base-stations can become operational and whether specific areas might be opposing new base-stations which also leads to area-specific bandwidth contention problems.
Yes, except when you compare the 3GB pricing to say HomeDSL384, then HomeDSL384 is less expensive - albeit much slower than Vodacom's HSDPA, and when you compare Vodacom's 5GB and 10GB pricing then HomeDSL384 is still less expensive - my point being that Vodacom most likely doesn't want to have its HSDPA network seen as a more viable alternative to HomeDSL384 for higher data usage limits, but rather provides an incentive for people to use HSDPA for lower data usage limits, which suggests to me that Vodacom doesn't want usage to outgrow capacity. If your reasoning had any validity 5Gb and 10Gb packages shouldn't be cheaper rate per Mb!
The PPDB product manager's head broke under v3g's vice-like grip when v3g tried forcefully get smaller Data Bundles out of the product manager...Why then are there still no bundles less than 500 MB?![]()
I haven't received that spreadsheet yet![]()
I think in the interest of transparency the spreadsheet should be published.
I agree. Still haven't received it as yet![]()
Did mail 'a' spreadsheet to you. Probably some mail server dumped it because of the attachment.
But is was not the spreadsheet antonf was expecting..... You did indicate you like spreadsheets and it was a bit of a fun one, but completely unrelated to data bundles.
antonf, will you please publish a spreadsheet with all you personal financial information, income, expenses, etc? In the interest of transparency, we'd like to see your personal financials. Also, we need to check if we can charge you more for a bundle.....![]()
PMSL...Also, we need to check if we can charge you more for a bundle.....![]()
