I've had a prepaid account with Vodacom for almost 18 years: no hassles or issues.

Two weeks ago, I received eight messages informing me that I am now on a contract. A contract that I was not aware of and that I did not ask for.

To say I lost my temper is putting it mildly. And it also made me slightly

Advice anyone? I have already reported them to HelloPeter.com and to ICASA.

You basically need to contact them, and then find out it if its true or not. I had an issue today with a user, where she got an sms saying she requested a sim swap, which she didnt request. So be careful and check these things out, as you could have been scammed

could be someone converting you to contract and swiping the free phone.
best you give them a call and find out whats going on.

Did you ever give bank details/required account docs?

Call away if you never did anything more than get a prepaid sim and rica.

Most possibly someone is doing a sim swop without your acknowledgement... Do you do internet banking on this prepaid sim card. If you do I would report it immediately. I know there are measures in place to prevent sim swop from happening. If your phone is switched off and they unable to reach you. They would normally send you an SMS.

My uncle recently found out that his vodacom contract was renewed without his knowledge and this bugger took an iPhone and 3 data contracts

Yeah its SHOCKING to see how many people get hit by upgrade fraud.... Basically they upgrade your line and take the phone without you even knowing.

I really dislike how the consumer is the victim here, he isn't, he was not fooled, the SP was fooled, they and the fraudster did the transaction together, the consumer should not be liable for **** here.

He is not liable unless he accepts liability. Its up to the SP to sort it out if they were a fraud victim.
