Does anybody know if/how this is possible given that I

(a) have no Vouchers/PIN with me abroad
(b) have only foreign (i.e. non-SA issued) credit cards

Is there maybe some online shop that can sell me a recharge
voucher and accepts non-SA credit cards or Paypal as
payment?

Many Thanks.

You have a two ways around this problem:

1: Get someone in SA to buy you a voucher and text you the number. Then use *100*01*voucher number# and then Send.

2: Get someone in SA to transfer airtime from their own pre-pay account using *111# and Send and then following the prompts.

Either way you'll need to refund them in some way!

I get the impression he's overseas at the moment though.

That's right, otherwise of course I could just pay cash.
So the one option would be an online shop that sells airtime
vouchers that would accept my credit card and can just
email me the PIN.
Prepaid GPRS/3G roaming works fine in Germany and the UK.

I think Woolworths, Edgars etc. might allow you to buy airtime online using a card, might be worth a try. ;)

On some Internet Bank sites you can buy airtime. I sometimes use ABSA to add airtime to my domestic workers Topup account. I am sure that if you are using a SA bank Internet service will be the easiest way to add airtime to the Pay as you go service.

Was Googling something unrelated and found this site

http://www.bigtimeairtime.com/

Can't vouch for them, but it seems to be what you want.

@Deenem: thanks, that looks good. Of all the ideas that seems to
be the only one which doesn't require a contact in South Africa or
a South African bank account or credit card
I haven't actually done it yet but so far I haven't found anywhere
where they say that foreign credit cards are rejected.

Just to report back - works perfectly, exactly what I was
looking for, thanks :)

They accept a scan of ID/CC (instead of fax as mentioned),
foreign CC's ok, and you get your recharge PIN instantly
on the web and by SMS.

4 years later...

I know I'm 4 years late with this response, but ya, 4 years on and I was in exactly the same predicament. Everyone else online wants you to wait several business days for your credit card to be verified and your airtime delivered...

THANKFULLY, I discovered the Vodacom Online Shop after googling for several hours.

If you're recharging a Vodacom prepaid account by credit card, you can get your airtime directly to your phone, instantly, paying online with Visa or MasterCard.

Just go to shop.vodacom.co.za
Register with an email address
Select "Recharge" at the top and follow prompts
Enter card details and pay
Et voila!

10 seconds later and I had airtime! I seriously hope this helps anyone else out there!

I'm not sure about the other providers, but this is quick and painless for Vodacom! (Well, if you can consider a 12-hour Googling session 'painless') - I just wish it was better documented!!

Hi David

Certain banks allow you to recharge directly from the site to your prepaid number , either with airtime or a bundle.
