So I have been using mtn 2gig bundle to play wow and have almost no issues. Latency is around 400-700 in raids etc with vent running. But was running out of cap so I decided ill get another 2gig bundles from vodacom cause for some stupid reason u cant add 2 caps of same size on mtn (gg stupid).

So i got prepaid card got airtime on and converted to 2gig bundle.

Its slow as hell I get constant dc's and latency is around 700-2000ms.. am I the only one? I know last week some issue with it but its not getting any better.

I thought vodacom is the best broadband for your rand...lol WHAT EVER!

I just wasted R389 on a bundle that is a pain to use not even browsing the internet is not worth it cause i get maybe 13kb/s downloads....and its suppose to be 3G(hsdpa) .. with mtn i get 60+ kb/s downloads easy

My best advise

Get a prepaid MTN sim from P&N it's R 0.99 load money and buy a Prepaid Bundle. All I can say.

Depends heavily on your location...some areas MTN is better other VC is better.

agreed

I just find it strange that everyone in our guild using VC from various locations are always having massive lag spikes, DC's and Pings of 2000+
(They all changed either to Telkom and various other services because of it)

I'm guessing they are all just in the wrong places. I have never had any problem on my MTN sim, be it Edge, 3G, HSDPA and so forth. True I suffer some latency issues changing between the various options but I never have a latency in excess of 800 ms. (HSDPA 270 - 350 ms latency the odd spike to 400 odd)

But I'm in a good location

well funny thing is I have full vodacom signal and 3 bars mtn 3g signal...go figure..

But I am getting telkom line soonish. And then I can stop spending crap loads of money on unstable internet. 3G is a nice fast solution but in the long term its a waste of money.

Cell providers are rolling in the money because of the lack of telkoms ability to install lines within a week or 2. People dont want to wait for service anymore. They want it and they want it now :P

VC used to be okay until around a year ago. Take a look at the vodacom forum and see how the post 'Slow throughput... yadayada' goes back. I did the whole, external high gain antenna thing to boost my signal (signal at -61db) and it still did squat for improving my latency in WoW.

I eventually cancelled my 3G account as it was just a waste of money to me.

Pitbull seems to have no problem grouping / raiding etc. on his MTN account.

Hmm, could I still use my vodacom Huwaei E620 with a MTN prepaid sim?

You have ADSL now :D
But sure an MTN sim will work once the cap has been reached :)

Would be cool if you could do a comparison on the 2 VC/MTN at you're house ;)

You should be able to, there were only a few Vodacom E620's that were locked and if it was they'll unlock it for you IIRC. Btw Pitbull, is there anyway that MTN's 3.6 rollout plans are listed?

Which area are you in ?

I'll find out for you quick ;)

At 14th avenue offices we have 7.2 to play around with for the time being. THAT SPEED IS AWESOME !!!!

To bad i don't have it at home /cry

Thanks Syndyre. Will keep my old E620 as a backup then with some prepaid aidtime. :p

Thanks, I'm in Grahamstown, I think there's only one 3G/HSDPA tower here. Nice, I ran speed tests last night and I was getting between 850kbps - 1 mbit with an E220, not bad but I'd rather have 3.6. :D 7.2 must be something!

If you want to use it on VC then just make sure its unlocked before you need to use it. :)

I've requested a roll-out report.

I should be able to pick it up from there. Will keep you updated.

Thanks again, do you know if HSUPA's being rolled out at the same time or if that's separate?

Damn this took a while :)

Ok this is what I have currently.

There was one more acquisition in Grahams town. And one Tower (id 5791) is currently down. I'm just trying to findout which sites is due an upgrade and which sites are on what type of speed.

Will keep you updated ;)

An acquisition being another tower? Thanks. ;)
