Vodacom price increases - who was wrong?

People wanted instant gratification, signed the contracts and now they complain.

They signed as they were under the impression gained from aggressive advertising that they would be paying Rxxx per month for 24 months. Not Rxxx + an increase mid-contract.

Yes, I understand that it is "acceptable" as it is mentioned in super fine print in the contract, but that does not make it either ethically or morally correct.

assuming that that super fine print doesn't violate applicable statutory provisions as at the time of signing and is interpreted to allow for such a change
the problem here really is that the service providers have involved themselves in the lending business with their contracts and both statute and the common law has a long history of wobble when it comes to predatory lending

The initial conclusion isn't incorrect. Sure the "wrong" figures were used but those figure still show a decrease in expenditure. So now with the new figures Vodacom is showing an increase in expenditure but only to make up for the previous shortfall. What's not addressed is the number of data users moving over to Cell C and Telkom causing a revenue loss. Cell C has had large data revenue growth. If only Vodacom utilised their LTE network to its full potential it would be another revenue stream but that would require competing with packages similar to that of Cell C and Telkom. Vodacom isn't good on the competition front so they are simply trying to make up for the loss and doing it by increasing prices because they can.

It's a slippery slope when your competitors offer more value for money and you offer less in response.

what is the state of CellC's financials? If CellC is not thrown a sufficient life line by regulatory measures will they still be in business? (do CellC have an LTE network?)

do you have a shred of evidence that data users are moving over to CellC and Telkom? As in a single shred of evidence? Must be all the Delphi developers

It's a slippery slope when a post attacks one company and praises another when both have done the same thing - actually CellC have increased both tariffs and subscriptions

Telkom Mobile.

Not so sure I can trust Telkom Mobile. Moved all my stuff that i could from Telkom (ADSL) because of bad service. I was happy when my Vodacom contract was with Nashua Mobile. I had no choice when it got moved to Vodacom, and then they increased. In 14 years with Nashua this never happened. 6 Months with Vodacom and they pull this crap.

MTN seems like the only viable option as I need a contract that work everywhere in SA, even the remote parts. My R30k/year spent on the 3 contracts might not bother Vodacom a bit, but they were prepared to sacrifice it for R90 odd rand.

Is it saturated like Cell C's network? Oh I see the usual Cell C won't be around in x months. This is so stale already.

Take a look at their financials and data growth.

Data tariffs? Cell C still offers great value in both data and voice.
