Does anyone else have over billing from vodacom in the months of March and April? I have looked on hello peter and it seems that there are so many people that are being over billed for data usage and alot of people saying they barely use their account or they used it less but are paying more. that is the case with me.

Welcome to the forum:).

Post billing is the reason I did not go for a data contract, but instead went for a top up contract, and convert the included airtime into data bundles. That way when you have used up the bundle you have, you can't use any more.

Getting back to your situation, please provide more specifics: what size bundle do you get every month, and how much were you billed for? Also, have you been monitoring your usage at all?

I am not sure about other service providers, but VSP billing seems to be pretty up to date when it comes to contract data bundles. Could be a little behind, specially if download a 100 meg file for example. Billing needs to go from the network to the SP, but with VSP I think this happens relatively quickly. I big problem that I think still persists out there is a lot of people have auto updates enabled on their computers. So, there PC is eating data without them realizing it. As far as they are concerned they are checking mail now and again and perhaps doing a quick search on Google, but in the background Windows is dowloading huge amounts of data. What your PC is doing in the background is not Vodacoms responsibility, whether it be because of a virus etc.

Not sure if this fits into this thread, but I noticed the following on my 2GB work contract (upgraded to 2GB for May). Now V4Me shows the following, as of this morning:

3g_data.jpg

The problem I have is that I haven't used this device/SIM at all today (1st June 2009). The last time I used it was last night, from about 7pm to about 10pm, as I was trying to use up some of my available 1.50GB balance for May month.
I disconnected at around 10pm last night and had used just under 1.45GB of the 1.50GB available.

Question - why does it then show 547MB available for May still, and 516MB used for June - I haven't used for June and I tried to use up most of May? Where is the rollover on this, if it exists? And why is my 2GB bundle only showing 1.17GB available for June? Why would there be such a delay in the data usage update - surely not two hours from disconnecting?

I have not idea how Vodacom work this out and it's a nightmare to keep track of - to top it off, I have 24 of these contracts for my staff countrywide that I need to check on and maintain weekly, so I'm pulling my hair out with this.

Maybe V3G can clarify this, as I'm now totally lost...

I have been charged ridiculous amounts this year.
In Feb they cut me off at R1600 on a 1 GB contract
This month I have a bill of R2000+
Trying to get an itemised bill is something else

How is it that they can bill you so accurately, but can not give you an app to accurately tell you how much data you have used?
Surely they intentionally keep us in the dark about usage to coin it on the out of bundle rates.

With a user ID like that how can you expect us to take you serious ?

With an ID like what?
I presume you mean seriousLY
Pissed off, ripped off people should be taken seriousLY

By the way, who is your 'us'?

Does Vodacom rip its customers off or not?

Now... I can say a lot of things about Vodacom.

But one thing I cannot say, is that they rip anyone off.

Unstable signal

Vodacom is easy to give advice and suggestions. But results is bad. I'm staying in Amersfoort Mphumalanga and the told me to get a K3715 Huawei modem and to get a aerial from point direct. According to vodacom my problem would have been solved. No succes. I don't drop a signal anymore but the signal is very unstable. It jumps from 0kbps to 230kps up and down continuously. After several "e" mails and various sms they told me they have a problem in this area and is investigating. This was 2 weeks ago. Still there is no progress. Vodacom is very fast on a reply but the response is very slow if any. I'm very disappointed with Vodacom.

I've dropped Vodacom Pre-Pay HSDPA because of constant problems with the Stilbaai West tower. My 10 - 20 random disconnects have reduced to no disconnects at all with MTN HSDPA. OK that's why I switched operators...

The odd thing that I've noticed since switching is just how much longer MTN data packages seem to last! I thought it was just my old mind wandering but the PC I use in my study only gets a 500Mb bundle and on Vodacom this would almost last a month however, on MTN it's lasting almost two months! My usage pattern hasn't changed by any significant amount on this machine!

My office PC gets a 2Gb data bundle and this is also seems lasting much longer!

Now the $64,000 Question is:

1. Is Vodacom Data Billing Correct?
2. Do MTN have a under billing problem?
3. If answer 2 is correct shall we tell them?

It is definitely 2. And no you don't need to tell them, because they will in any event bill you 2+ months down the line at OOB rates, then the proverbial will hit the fan on your side when you see the bill.
