Hi I recently got Vodacom fibre.
They came and installed everything with no problem. On Thursday we got hit by lightning and the router is broken. I contacted Vodacom and all they did is log a fault. So I went out and bought a new router. I connected everything and could not get it to work. I phoned Vodacom again to activate it. And the operator sed no I must get a Vodacom router. If I want my new router I just bought to work I can only email there other department and maybey they can help to activate it.why dose Vodacom not want us to use other better routers instead of there cheap routers.i think il be changing my ISP again.

Vodacom fibre is the worst. I've been struggling with their support now for so long. In our complex we can only use Vodacom fibre and it has been a horrible experience. Most of the time it's super slow and at least once a week it goes down. Even worse now when there's load shedding.

Any router should work if you plug it in. I used another router for comparing between the Vodafone router and other brand. All worked fine.
Is your Vumatel or Fibre converter box not blown too?

The Vodacom router policy is stupid and idiotic. They can have the greatest network but if they don't allow me to use my own router I'll show them the middle finger.
Suggest you cancel.

Don't know about Vodacom, but unlike ADSL, you don't need a login and password for fibre, as this is done by the ISP

Therefore any router with a WAN port will do. I used a Mikrotik since it has better wi-fi transmission and does 2.4GHz and 5GHz

That's correct Chrisc. Martin456, make sure the new router has a WAN input.

If you're on openserve as your Fibre provider you will still have a username/password that needs to be "dialed"

I got a Asus one and even though everything shows its on and working I still have no internet quite frustrating
