Vodacom SA expands its BlackBerry services

Vodacom was first to market with BlackBerry® in South Africa in February 2005.
From what I can remember, MTN launched BlackBerry weeks before Vodacom. They just didn't make such a big deal about it. Am I wrong?

I think you are right there Andres101, but I still think Blackberry handsets suck when compared with the likes of Nokia and SonyEricsson.
Push email is the only selling point, but then that's not the real reason for wasting copius amounts of advertising on what is essentially, a piece of cr@p.

I don't know if "launched" is quite correct, what MTN did do is trial Blackberry for Webber Wentzel / Bowman Gilfillan at their Sandton offices - that was a few weeks before the official Vodacom Blackberry launch [AFAIK].

Why is it that BB never took SA by storm as it did in Europe and the US?

Do we know something that they don't?

The technology has been leapfrogged by smart phones. The push e-mail facility is easily mimicked through automatic e-mail retrievals ("pull" e-mail) that can be set on your phone for every so often.

I love my BBerry even though its an old one a mate sent over from abroad. Going to be getting a new one (7290) next month. I like having one number for a cellphone and another for my blackberry and never the twain shall meet.
