HI All

I just want to know if it is possibile with the E230 modem?

I've seen some posts regarding the E220, when swapping the sims, but not on 230.

if possible, how on earth do you set it up? i cant find no answers regarding this this

thanks for any help

As far as I can guess, you should be able to use any sim card in any device. The devices shouldn't be network locked, but you just have to sort out the software connectivity issues. Once the drivers for your device are installed, your computer will pick it up as a normal modem, and you just need to set the connection string, or use a neutral 3rd party tool (like Nokia PC Suite) to make the connection, and set the parameters for the connection string (username, password, APN)

Thank you!

When using a neutral 3rd party tool (like Nokia PC Suite), do i uninstall the MTNfastlink software, and let Nokia PC Suite use it(E230) for conection? Where do i find the username, password, APN for my Voda Sim(pay-as-you-go)?

Now I know how it feels to be a total noob at something! Thanks for the help!

I bought a HSDPA arial(R1600 for everything), and still have GPRS(improved from 19% - 97% signal strength), very dissapointed, but atleast Voda have EDGE. Funny thing, family 300m from me have 3g without HSDPA aerial, although weak signal strength.

Thanks again

Well I was hoping other people would reply to this thread to either confirm or rubbish my comments. I am making somewhat of a guess here.

I don't think you need to uninstall MTN Fastlink software. Nokia PC Suite suite should pick up the modem automatically, if the drivers are installed correctly. The username and password is usually blank, while the APN for Vodacom is "internet", if I remember correctly. But you can phone Vodacom to confirm this. Or ask on the Vodacom forum.

thanks alot, downloading Nokia PC Suite. I'll let you know if i succeed

Why on earth would you want to use the Nokia software with a Huawei device? If the MTN software will recognise the Vodacom SIM and the APN is set to internet it should work. Otherwise just get the Hauwei Mobile Parter software from Huawei and flash the dashboard.

Thanks for info will try it. BTW i did connect now using the pc suite!

Coz maybe you don't want to be forced to use an operator branded connection utility (MTN fastlink, Vodafone Mobile Connect).

I've never really used 3G on datacards before, was venturing on a guess here, and looks like I was right. Though I'm pretty sure the Huawei Mobile Partner software is much better than Nokia PC Suite (venturing on another guess here, but guys feel free to provide input). You should give it a try.

I had the inverted 'problem' of yours: wanted to use MTN SIM on 'Vodafone' E220. The basic idea is to get the driver installed and then adjusting the settings for your preferred network. The same principle applies to E230.

Find some 3rd party connection tool (I also used MDMA) but it is not neccesary since Windows will see the datacard as a modem that you can simply dial. The dashboard software is only there to count data, load bundles/check balances (USSD commands) or read an SMS.

It's a bit tricky, especially for non-technical users, to use windows to connect your datacard to a network. You've got to add special parameters to the connection string for things like the APN, to make it work. Not too hard, but some people don't even know you can do this.

No you don't. Once the default APN has been set on the modem, it stays set, you can even do this in another computer.

All you need to configure is the *99# dial up number.

thanks for all the help :)

really do appreciate it :)

this threat may be locked

tx again :)
