You can lock down a prepaid MTN sim by phoning the fraud dept and asking them to enable sim security which is a security question and answer that you give them and needs to be answered to enable a sim swap.
Dial 135 option 2 option 5

I've done this just now for my MTN sim. Easy and simple process. Just make sure you have the mobile number as well as the sim card number (found on the sim card).

I would fail on many of these. Does it need a perfect score?

So not so easy for the fraudster without the SIM card number but how many keep the PUK

A preventive measure at last! Why don't all operators do this!! You would of course have to remember the question/answer which may have been set years ago.
 
Have some Vodacom sims which need some sim security as well. I've called 135 and no such option exists. No option to even speak to a human. It just sends you to Tobi and from there on its a no go.

Problem is shop asking for 5 numbers dialed - it only ever called whatsapp. Customer care cant help as it shows some error on the system and wont let them proceed. I also dont have the PUK and Pin (sim is years old).

Now as I am the person who rica'd the number this is crazy as Vodacom telling me they cant help me so I stand to loose all my backed up WhatsApp messages and pics. Been to the Vodacom shop twice and spent ages on the call center - no joy.

Thinking of writing a letter to CEO or something - anyone have an address or suggestions. I get that it should be hard to get your number swapped - but never impossible for a legit customer .... Anyway let this be a warning to all Gen Z users who never make calls - keep a copy of your PUK and original PIN of SIM else you stand to loose it all.

Around the same dates I completed the easiest sim swap ever. Called & it went to SMS's for questions due to popia I guess.

Sim reverted back to new number after I loaded all that airtime lol. Anyways

I got lucky & realized I linked my email to my WhatsApp so even if I don't have the sim I can still get back in.
