Vodacom SMTP problem

We don't do port shaping.

But certain protocols pass through different engines and these could cause delays. In this case the in-line virus scanners on port-25, in this specific area, had high utilisation and it caused the problems seen.

threegee, won't you test again?

Just tested now on port 25 to my server .... no go. With or without TLS/SSL it is still a no go. "None of the authentication methods supported by your client are supported by this server" ... I won't bother testing the other 5 servers because I know what the outcome is going to be.

I tested again this morning and I am once again able to:
- perform mail transaction on port 25 (no tls/ssl)
- perform mail transactions on port 25 (with tls)

I hope this issue is now fully resolved and will remain untouched.

Report back - been functioning perfectly all day, also seems a lot faster on the send than normal. Thanks very much V3G for sorting this out :)

I can confirm that my mail to smtp.gmai.com does exactly the same thing it did before.
I tried at 04:20 this morning, worked on the second attempt to send 7 lines of ASCII.
Then again at 12H40 this afternoon, and I gave up on the fourth attempt.
Then at 15H50 it failed after 5 attempts, so I logged into the web interface.

But hey, I gave up and now will only use www.Gmail.com to send email.

Thanks for the info. I really did think that Voda did do shaping, it feels good to be mistaken. :D

I've not had any further problems with Gmail since yesterday. What ports are you using? I have POP (995) and SMTP (25) with SSL.

It's not just port 25, port 587 to smtp.gmail.com is also nerfed down to impossible to use.
If you want to use Voda for data during office hours ... use port 80 or give up.

For what it's worth, I use port 465 (outgoing) and 995 (incoming) for Gmail.

On my own (US based) servers I use 578 and 110, respectively.

Hi I have the same problem, I have an webmail.co.za email address and is also using a V3G dongle and all of a sudden I could not send emails - I phoned vodacom several times and spend hours on the phone and no one could help me solving this matter and then one operator told me that vodacom does not allow any other email addresses but only their own email addresses to use the out going mail server any more. So I have to change my email address to [email protected]

This is ridiculous because it has worked for the last 10 years and now I have to change my email address - I will have to phone all my account holders, banks etc to change my email address - it is worse than moving to another place

Can any one help me in this regard?
