Before Christmas Vodacom decided to upgrade the Stilbaai West 3G/HSDPA Tower.
Well the upgrade seems to have been a downgrade because the service is very erratic with regular log-offs! No that's not really correct, constant log-offs is closer to the truth. I logged a call a few days before Christmas and the call still hasn't been cleared down with a resolution.
What amazes me is that Vodacom completed the upgrade to the tower even though they were aware that the upgrade did not function correctly, they still left the kit in place! There were a lots of unhappy visitors to Stilbaai over the holiday period complaining about the chronic 3G/HSDPA service (what there was of it) and now the locals just have to put up with it! Gone are the days of being able to download 100Mb files, 20Mb is the best I can manage now!
I am even more amazed that I was told that the kit was of Alcatel origin, not Motorola, Sony Ericcson or Nokia but Alcatel. I just hope that Alcatel produce better quality network equipment than those shoddy little handsets they used to sell here!!!
Last I heard the problem had been past back to Alcatel to resolve! Probably excessive garlic in the left hand flanger spocket!
