The vodacom system seems to have been down for the past two days.
I have not been able to buy data bundles and am being charged R 2 a meg as the amount is being deducted from my airtime.

A vodacom call centre rep confirmed that this is the case.
What I would like to find out about is the legality of this. As this is a service that Vodacom offers and as a consumer I am being charged at a higher rate because their systems have been down.
What rights do I have as a consumer ?

If Vodacom can get away with doing this then I am happy to take this up with the department of communications and the dept of trade and industry.

Mods please do not move this thread as it is about consumer rights rather than the issue of system being down.

@The_Librarian. This needs to be bigger than that. Cell C has already set the cat among the pigeons.
There are many poor consumers out there who are unaware of their options and who are being ripped off.

I think the best option is to vote with your wallet,I left Vodacom cause of the high internet costs and took up the cell c option of R149 pm for 2GB .though it is slower,it still does the job

As a customer.. you have no rights.. they are providing you the required service.

If the price is too high for you, move to another provider.
