as well as the Lotto network people.

I can't imagine the service and offerings such competition will create!




South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.
 
Don't forget, Sentech signed alot of us into a 24 month contract.

I don't think Sentech signed that people people. There's still a big market out there for wireless internet access.

What's this about the lotto network people service provider?
 
The lotto company uses wireless between there machines, and their parent company has a telcoms license. So they will launch something based on that !

It's sad, cause most of the people here will be with Sentech till 2006...

And worst is, even though prices drop because of competition...*OUR* prices will most likely not drop, because we signed to pay what we are paying now.
 
Look at it another way - its 20 months (aproximately) and counting before everyone who signed with Sentech and MyWireless and who receieved lousy treatment and speeds, walks away from Sentech and refuses to sign any further contract.

If there's viable competition thats more stable and provides better speeds, Sentech wont get any more money out of me the instant my contract is over. So either their service improves, or MyWireless wont be able to survive with the small segment of people who ARE satisfied with the shoddy third rate treatment and service.

The rest of us, will smoothly slip over to and sign up with whoever is cheaper, bandwidth-reliable and stable. Bye bye MyWireless.. so they may have made some money in the short term, but if there isnt a radical change - they DONT have a 'long term' as a company..
 
Mywireless was anounced a long time ago, I remember reading about it in PCF about 2 years ago.

Now running on this time frame how long will it take for there to be any competitiors.

Also if Vodacom and MTN are involved it will cost a packet, look how they still charge us through our asses for cell calls and things like GPRS.

Just a though.
 
I agree. Im pretty ok with having my 22 months left. Things move very slowly here. ADSL took years to arrive and then look at how badly they stuffed that up. It was already starting to be phased out overseas in favour of SDSL when it arrived here.

Anyways with Telkom around, there will be no cheap broadband. Ever. Only if Telkom has a serious mindset change or is removed completely will things change. They are making too much money is it is to even care about the consumer. And its not like we can just afford to not have any form of internet access so they arent exactly not signing people up.

Know one thing, if Vodacom is putting down R100mil, with their business model they will expect R3bil in return. What does this tell you? Pay per packet and pay a lot. Maybe they will come in under GPRS which will be nice. I wont mind checking mail etc via cellphone if its like R1 a MB. Just another pipe dream..

One things for sure, things are getting interesting.
 
yea but checkit, all of them are going to be priced about the same because none of them wants to admit they're overcharging the public for a service that could be dirt cheap

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

I sense I will be continuing with my cellphone contract contrary to prepaid plans, unless they offer this on vodago (not likely)... lol
 
Remember that these products will probably concentrate on Businesses initially...so my guess is it's not going to be that cheap. Compare what we we pay for Cellular opposed to overseas, even though we have a huge subscriber base for a small country and 1st world cell technology.

Who knows...maybe bend over some more ?

and you seriously think these new services will be hassle free, damn fast, no disconnects, incredible coverage??? yes with time!!! and so will sentech im sure... (no i dont work for sentech)
 
As I said more than 6 months ago and got shot down by some members of this forum (ProAsM), dont just jump into the latest technology that is thrown your way, especialy with a 24 month contract!!

I feel sorry for you guys with the 24 months contract, but all I can say is that if people had done their home work and looked at the type of technology that is used to drive MyWireless, as I did and pointed out in my very first topic on this subject, you would have seen that it was 3G technology being used although not one mention of it is anywhere on Sentechs site (for obvious resons), and it was only a matter of time that Vodacom and MTN etc, who we must remember have been around know for more than 10 years, would get in on the act!! They built the origional GSM networks, why should they not be allowed a 3G licence?

1+1=2 Its simple!!!
 
SOlution, yes competion is good, ppl have to make it work for them, Imagine if lot of ppl cancelled there adsl line in 1 day because telkoms service is no good and opted for the competion with a slightly cheaper rate, they would take notice. pple in SA are to complacent and thats why alot of things end up costing, because we keep our mouth shut and open our wallets
