Anyone know how the Vodacom Top-Up 315 contracts work?

Do you get 315 of airtime that you can use as you please, e.g buying SMS bundles, data bundles, etc.... or is it purely talk time?

You get pure airtime, to use in any way you'd like. Need to add SMS bundles, etc, on to that if you want them.

EDIT: 'pure' is probably the wrong word to use there, but you get the point :p

You 100% on that?

I was about to sign up....

Can I use data then without buying a bundle?

I have had... the top-up 135, top-up 315 and now the top-up 590.
I am 100% sure of that.
I connect my laptop to my phone all the time and use it to surf.
SMSs are covered.
Calls are covered.

It's pretty much as if you have pre-paid airtime. You just use it for whatever you'd like, and when the allocated airtime's all used up, you can purchase more.

The amount you get covers everything: talktime, SMS and data. I have one and speak from experience. Although obviously you're paying out-of-bundle rates for data so it is slightly exorbitant.

Great - thanks.... do you get an itemized bill - or does it work like prepaid as well with regards to this?

You can also convert credit (the R315 they give you) to data bundles. I do this on a monthly basis.

It covers everything, data is calculated at OB rates.

You can use the airtime to purchase data bundles but not sms bundles.

I have the top up 135 with an extra sms bundle. (R30)

So you can buy data bundles with the R315 airtime?

I'm confused again :p

Anyone know a website to get the Vodacom specials, I want to see what the Touch Pro 2 cost is on this contract.

Re itemised billing: Don't think you get it, but I could be wrong.
If you do, I guess I just have never signed up for it.

yes, you can use the airtime to get data bundles but not sms bundles, don't worry you are not the only one confused by this logic.

Btw its hard to get a good phone on these contracts.

Imagine you buy a prepaid simcard with R20 airtime
Now imagine you buy a 200 SMS bundle via FNB online banking (when it works...)
Now imagine you buy a 500mb data bundle on that simcard via whichever means
NOW, imagine this is what you do with the Topup 315.

I also use it, and the flexibility is actually quite cool.

Regarding itemised billing, I cancelled mine. Cost R22 per month for nothing. Like in, it didnt have itemised info in the bill. Only had 2 pages stating I had a Topup 315 and 200 SMS bundle every month.

Now I receive only 1 page with that same info on and I save R22 per month ;)

I have the 315s topup contract. I do get itemised billing. I usually buy 500mb data every second month. This gets deducted from the R315 airtime. So R315 - R189 = R126. The data bundle gets carried over to the end of the next month.

SMS bundles can be bought from your airtime.

You also have the option to add on bundles ontop of your R315. And a feature I like is the option to do an instant topup. This adds R315 aitime and your next debit with have the additional R315 added.

I can also send R29, R55, or R110 airtime from my phone to another vodacom sim which comes off my available airtime balance.

Dial *111# from your phone for most of the above options.

I have itemised billing and get a list of all calls made, duration and cost.

On my wifes 315 topup contract I don't have itemised billing enabled.

I got a Touch Diamond 2 on a Topup 315 from Vodaworld last month (had them add the pay in to my monthly fee so pay R80 or something per month extra).

As far as I understand I can get data bundles from the R315, but have to pay extra for SMS bundles. Doesn't make sense but that's how it was explained to me.

A tip on buying bundles: buy at the beginning of every second month. Say you use 100MB a month, buy 200MB at the beginning of the month - it'll last to the end of the next month. Larger bundles are significantly cheaper per MB than smaller bundles.

Thanks.

Was looking at the Touch Pro 2 - but now thinking of waiting till the Diamond HD2.

Are you sure about transferring the included R315 to another vodacom sim? Tried it some time ago but didn't seem to work. Would be VERY nice as I can then transfer it to my prepaid sim which is in my 3G modem.

Just wish that on MTN we could also buy data bundles on the Anytime packages. (WHY NOT MTN???)
