Vodacom Top-Up contracts?

Thanks.

Was looking at the Touch Pro 2 - but now thinking of waiting till the Diamond HD2.

I think you mean the Touch HD2 (not diamond). It is a cool phone, but pretty big! The TP2 is pretty much the same phone as the Diamond 2, but with a qwerty keyboard. All 3 are great devices.

Just to check, you want to buy data bundles with the R315 airtime that is loaded automatically on the start of each month? If this is the case, you can certainly buy data bundles, I do it each month. Simply use vodacom4me.co.za.

Sorry for the very old thread resurrection :D I see quite a few conflicting stories regarding what can and can't be done with the R315 airtime. It seems like it CAN be used for buying DATA bundles but can't be used for SMS bundles (despite some forumites thinking otherwise)....?

Spoke to a friend, he said you can use it for anything you can use normal over the counter airtime... not sure how true that is.

Well I'm happy with the ability to buy DATA bundles, I just want to know if I can do the same for sms bundles (if it was as simple as just asking the staff at the stores then it would be an non issue but as you have experiences yourself they hardly ever seem to know what is going on themselves and they will never taker responsibility later on if what they said wasn't true.) Well looks like I'll be getting the same contract as you on the same phone :D

Cool :) I think the only limitation is transferring the airtime to someone else.

If you're not in a rush (which I doubt) - I can hopefully tell you next week... Vodacom said I'd get an SMS once the application was approved...so far nothing :(

Nah, I'm gonna go into the store right here by me and ask them and see what they have to say. I doubt we'll be able to load sms bundles but I can deal with that :) Will just start using whatsapp etc :)

Ok so I went to open a contract today with vodacom and asked about the whole data bundles thing. The lady I first dealt with told me that it wasn't possible. Then I told her that she must please find out because I was "sure" that you could. She then asked another staff member who then being very cocky came and told me that it was definitely NOT possible.
Once again I told her that "I had heard" of people doing exactly this with their topup airtime. Luckily for me she then said she would phone "headoffice" to find out.

After about 10 seconds on the phone she was told that it was indeed possible to do so  I then politely asked her to inform her cocky colleague as he was a bit confused. He very quickly retaliated by saying he though we were talking about the blackberry BIS service  I wish network operators would educate their staff in the shops so that they know what the hell is going on with their own packages. Eish.....

Sorry about that zenbaas....but that is what happens when u doubt the great OC! U get bad karma! Lol.

Glad u got sorted though. Enjoy

I'll "enjoy" as soon as I get the phone :D Now we just need to get vodacom to drop their data prices so that they are more competitive with Cell C but I don't see that happening in the next few months.
But thanks OX, this will be my first time with vodacom so lets hope it's a good experience :)

The whole reason I went with the topup contract is because I foresee less hassles... (been on prepaid for two years I think)

+1 Absolutely. I'm not in the mood for any "surprises" at the end of the month.

Yip - I just don't want any MTN type billing errors that they deduct from my account and I have to prove its a mistake... dealing with 808 is like asking a Grade 1 to solve a University Maths problem

Hehehe I see we have both been down the same road before. Waiting for 45 minutes for somebody on the 808 number is no joke. What I find unbelieveable is the stores themselves "cannot" sort out your issues and just refer you to the call centre. It's easy to deal with somebody when they aren't in your face.

MTN has disgusting service - I once had a billing issue where the 808 consultant couldn't help me - I kept asking to speak to his supervisor and he kept saying no... he eventually said he will not let me speak to his supervisor and put down the phone... fortunately I had his name. Hellopeter'd him, apparently they're 'contracted' but MTN will make sure he is disciplined (yea right)... I think MTN is the only company where I have ever resorted to swearing on the phone... (once), I honestly think you need to fail an IQ test to work in that call centre.

Well I have only ever visited 2 vodacom branches and that was in the last week. Both of them had staff on an equivalent level to MTN :D I just hope that their "resolutions" side of things is better than the rest. The whole "zero-rated" downloads thing from vodacom4me over the last few months has me a bit on edge WRT to their willingness to look after their customers and not screw them over. I guess time will tell.
