Is it possible for vodacom to construct a cellphone tower in my yard? My area experiances unstable signal and I think this would be a good solution. Any advice or comments would be appreciated, thanks.

your neighbours would probably complain that their babies/dogs/birds/brains/cats etc will be fried by the radio waves :)

A friend of mine almost throttled a neighbour when they came around with a petition against a new cell tower.
"I want goddamn good reception you moron" was the exact quote I think.

Which nicely summarises the situation networks often find themselves in, half the people want coverage, half don't want a tower.

And you only need one guy to kick against the tower and you're looking at years before you *might* get coverage.

Oh well, Vodacom is welcome to put a tower in my backyard ANY day. I already get a good signal, but I just want to annoy my neighbour! :D

Well is there any way to "invite" the network to come look at my yard for a possible site. I have ample space.

My suggestion... buy a 15 storey building in an area of low buildings and the cell companies will come knocking at your door with offers! :)

EDIT : ...and V3G, threads such as this, and your response give me even more ammo to use when negotiating rentals from them! ;)

The can come put one of their "tree towers" up in my yard, ample space and we have a need for one of their towers.

Not really 'ammo', just information and knowledge you can use how you see fit. And it's only fair if you know both sides of any story.

Of course, one would expect you'd also acknowledge both sides of the story. :)

The cell phone companies...
I have still not recieved any information on how to "invite" any network to talk to me about putting a tower on my yard

My understanding is that if you get municipal permission to rent out a portion of your own property to a cellular network without any objections from the surrounding community, and provided that your yard is close to sufficient power and backhaul and can offer some useful signal coverage [no topographical obstructions] etc, then the cellular network operators will be clambering to ring your doorbell.

Maybe the fact that you post in a public forum, as someone called "Ghost02" living in a place called "The Ghost town" might just have something to do with it.

Well then I'll change it. I live in Durban.

Hmmm that is something else I want to have a look into... we have Cell C and MTN on our roof, they pay us rental but nothing major and now you have me wondering whether their electricity is on a separate supply or if the body corporate is having to bear the cost of that....

PM your contact details and address and I will ask the planner for that area to make contact with you. I am not at work this week, so will probably only happen next week.

Do you have something to do with the whole tower placement thing? If you do which network? It doesn't matter which network because I'll be moving to it.

If I recall correctly, you're still at school? (Correct me if I'm wrong).

If so, I'd suggest you get your parents to call the local offices of the various networks as these decisions are handled at a regional level.

Well I'm still busy with my last little bit of school, but it wasn't my decision to find out how to get a tower placed on the yard.
