My contract is ready for an upgrade so I thought I'll have a look around to see what deals are out there. Incredible Connection has some great promotions this weekend and it would be awesome if I can just upgrade to one of their specials.

The question is: Are the specials just for new Vodacom customers or for upgrades too? I e-mailed them and they said it's available for upgrades but then when I phoned Incredible Connection in Rosebank the guy said it's not. Is it worthwhile trying out other stores?

Also what's the point of not offering deals to your current clients? Surely then I will just look for deals of the competitors and go with them rather.

*edit*
The guy replied via email again and unfortunately confirmed that it's only for new contracts. I guess I'll have to look for similar specials by Cell C, MTN or 8ta. :(

It is to the benefit of IC to throw in some support for new lines. When it comes to upgrades, it is not such a good idea...as when you upgrade a line with your special on a line that is not on your base you actually loose money.

Shouldn't it work differently though ocleroux? The current system actually encourages people to move from provider to provider.

I believe that the cellular providers should reward their users for staying.

For instance I used to be with MTN but moved to Vodacom because of a good deal. Now when scouting deals out there it's the same scenario. I can't go with the same provider because it will be to my disadvantage. I am just very surprised that there aren't measures in place to keep customers...

It's almost as if the providers are relying on the laziness of people to stay with their current providers. Yet they also hope that their new brilliant offers will attract new customers.

It's stupid and I'm very disappointed.

Specials that are only for new lines have become rather rare these days. For example, the deals that I post on a bi monthly basis are for both upgrades and new lines....and most promos, like the Mofaya broadband deals and ones such as the Desire S on erm..think it was the Top Up 135 or something are available for both upgrade and new lines.

Companies like IC have the choice of throwing in some extra cash into a deal...but this money will come out of their pocket...therefore, they will make it available only for new lines. If they give it on upgrades, and people whose contracts do not in fact belong to IC stream in to get the deal, well, the financial loss could be huge and therefore does not make business sense.

I took out a contract at ic, got 5000 voucher. Im due for an upgrade, and they have the special on again. I wonder if they would do a upgrade this way

Hmmm so I was wondering. Is it possible to go from a contract to prepaid? I'm thinking of going prepaid for a while until the Windows Phone 8 phones come out.

Yes, you may if you have reached your contract term date, this is 3 months after your upgrade date. Remember, you will only be able to go back onto contract after 6 months from the date you went onto prepaid.
