Vodacom users to get free Dropbox storage, Backup+ app

Was just going to ask do we get free data for that too?

For a year? No thanks.
Gmail's free 15Gb+ for life is better.

SO, Tannie gets a new phone. Installs new apps/sets up phone = uses in bundle data.

It syncs her Dropbox once that's installed, but Tannie is now klapping OOB:

1024 * 2 * 25 = R51,200

Obviously most people won't have the full 25GB utilised, but a similar scenario almost definitely explains why Vodacom is willing to offer this service.

If anything, I reckon Vodacom will make money out of this :(

“Backup+ will enable Vodafone customers to sync their contacts. They will also save all their photos, videos and more into a Dropbox account. Any files saved through Backup+ can also be restored to any new device or accessed and shared through the Dropbox mobile application,” said Vodafone.
I already get contact backups synced via gmail & storage via Google Drive. Doesn't cost anything.

MEGA
https://mega.co.nz/
MEGA provides free cloud storage with convenient and powerful always-on privacy. Claim your free 50GB now!

I am pretty happy with MEGA actually.

And it is encrypted all the way from your uploading device to their servers. 50Gig free is more than enough for me with this service.

If you own a Samsung you get 50GB of storage with drop box already.

Always trying to squeeze more money from subscribers ,first year free !
I wonder if Vodacom is going to try and put prices up soon ?
I do not trust cloud storage as most have been compromised .

I used it yesteray. Was working 100%

I use a MEGA account to backup photos- I queued up and uploaded ~20GB overnight.

When validating the upload (manually) I noticed many files hadn't been uploaded and there were lots of duplicates :(

I scrapped the upload, and had to do it folder by folder with validation of each before starting the next one.

Painful.

The things I do for free storage :o

I use OneDrive on my Lumia 1020. Anyone have an idea on how much space I get? I either never saw a figure or the copious amounts of alcohol I ingest weekly has taken it's toll...

In the OneDrive app, go to settings > accounts and click on your account.

I got about 30gbs and with my campus account I think I have 1tb

OneDrive is 15GB default, but I signed in a new user the other day, and they got 30GB, they might have quietly upped the quota. Should be at the bottom-left on the onedrive site, unless you have Office 365 sub, in which case it's unlimited storage.

Edit: Upon investigation, it seems if you set up OneDrive on your phone/tablet (any platform) to sync your camera roll, you get an extra 15GB free.
