are there any problems currently on the Vodacom network? I only connect every like 10th attempt, other times I get packet data connection failed.

Also when I do connect I get a horrible (like Skype sounds on dialup) stretched out or seperated words during a the VOIP call.

Putting in my MTN simcard and logging onto Truphone and doing the same call has perfect call quality. Put Vodacom simcard back into phone, logon using internet APN and make call, I get numerous issues tonight.

Let me give it a try. If my 3G bar is reads full signal, it cant be a signal issue can it?

There are some things that lead me to believe its a signal issue, but the signal is almost full.

internetvpn is also subtracted from your data bundle right? stupid question, but just wanna make sure.

It is, treated the same as traffic through the internet apn. Not using VOIP but got no problems with Vodacom 3G on this side.

I cant access that APN I am guess I need to request access to it.

It appears im getting bad speeds when downloading stuff with a single thread, but using a download manager I get like 90kb per second. Not sure why VOIP is causing issues.

Not sure if the internetvpn apn will help anyway, the only difference IIRC is you get a non-NATed IP.

yeah. I doubt it will make any difference, maybe Vodacom is having a bad night on their network or something. However if I move around it definitely seems to get better and worse. However my 3G Signal meter is always high, so i don't get it.

Will need to do some more testing.

Might be a local tower problem because nobody else seems to be reporting major issues.

You need to remember that the signal strength meter only indicates the signal strength from a base-station to your modem [i.e. handset], but you are both receiving data [from the base-station] as well as transmitting data to the base-station from your modem, so your outbound signal strength could be the issue here.

BTW, was that "90kb" meant to be kbits/s or kBytes/s?

The 90 is Kilobytes per second. 792kbps. I just used that as a rough figure, it says my modem to pc connection is 926 (9xx) kbps so its most probably using the maximum. Near 900kbps. Happy with that speed. I do think its probably the upload thats the issue.
