I have been on MTN for the past 2 years, besides their useless billing and non existent customer service, their signal an quality of service for calls and BB were good to outstanding.

I have now change to Vodacom. Same phone just new sim.
The service is absolutely shocking. Today I must have had 20 dropped calls. BB browsig on net is slow as dial up. Difference is Vodacom has a decent billing system IMO and their customer service is much better.

So to sum it up
Vodacom +1 for customer service
Vodacom +1 for billing
Vodacom - 10 for quality of service

MTN +1 for quality of service
MTN - 10 for billing
MTN - 10 for customer service

MTN vs Vodacom is like comparing a con-artist with a rapist.

So to sum it up
Vodacom +1 for customer service
Vodacom +1 for billing
Vodacom - 10 for quality of service

MTN +1 for quality of service
MTN - 10 for billing
MTN - 10 for customer service

So Vodacom = -8

And MTN = -19

Seems like you made the right decision :)

Quite sad how we have no faith in either company

I was just thinking whether overseas people experience similar problems with their carriers, I was just about to google and search for overseas forums and see what their issues are. I cannot see any carrier providing a worse cell service, honestly cant.

What's quite sad is that we only have "either company".
Fact is we all forget about Cell C, though to my liking they've still not proven themselves in voice.
Though they're getting the desired exposure with their data promotion.

Fact remains, we need more mobile operators to compete, but we need MTR's to drop in order for competition to truly flourish.
That and for ICASA to grow a pair...

... After a few months of signal issues and the horrible quality, you'll wish to go back ;)

I've been on BIS for almost 10 months and - although I've had a few decent weeks - most the time is dismal.

You'll soon stop browsing ... Tell your friends to SMS because of the servive and start borrowing MTN phones to use. You'll be paying an extra R60pm for - well - nothing really.

You can show your friends the handset and point to the badge, but those in the know will chuckle because they're aware that most the time you've got a standard 'mobile phone' if you're with Vodacom.

Take a tip - pretend you have a normal phone and everytime the BIS logo comes, you'll be chuffed! I'm chuffed multiple times a day - with up to 50% up time at times!

There data site isn't much better ; I signed a 36 month contract with lil netbook and some data, purely for the occassional browsing without needing to walk upstairs. It worked great for 12 months and I used it more than my PC ... And for the last its been GPRS, packet loss, time outs and unusable.

Netbook sits collecting dust ... Data is used when I drive out 10km to make use of it. And worst of all - I'm stuck to another 12 months of paying with no service.

Lifes a bitch :/

I have used BB on both networks and must say that i have found MTN to be quicker and more stable

Well luckily I dont have a contract just month to month but wait until the CPA comes in....;)

Good on you :)

Just yesterday I went to have a few drinks at the local down the road. I had about 5 hours of ZERO BIS ... nothing. I even rebooted twice in that time, but it refused to pick anything up.

Hence I always say Vodacom should leave data to Cell C and Blackberry to MTN, IMO.

Been wondering which provider works best with BIS. Now when I get my Torch I know which SIM to use. Anyone tried CellC BIS. How is it on the HSPA+ Network?

I have a Vodacom 3G contract and i had constant issues where my signal dropped and at times could not even connect at all! Took them almost a year to resolve, that was after i mailed the Managing Director :-)
MTN on the other hand are stable and i don't have issues **Touch wood**

Ive also had two Bolds on both networks at the same time and MTN is without a doubt better. This is proved to be the case all over the country.

Bis only works on edge and 3g. Don't know about cell c but between mtn and vodacom, mtn is definitely the best.

i have used BIS on both and MTN is by far the better option. Vodacoms BIS is seriously slow
