Vodacom vs Telkom

With Vodacom expected to announce a mooted R7,5-billion BEE deal before the end of the year, which would dilute Telkom's shareholding, it could make sense for Telkom to sell before it loses joint control of the mobile operator.

Looks like it's going to happen, then.

Telkom secured a 10% stake in iBurst's parent company, WBS, last year, in a bid to get its hands on the valuable Wi-Max spectrum, which it will use to roll out a Wi-Max network by the end of the year.

Should this not read as Vodacom secured a 10% stake in iBurst's parent company, WBS...

uhm I wonder how far Vodacom is prepared/allowed to go into the fixed line business? When LLU happens will they be allowed to hook up to that too?

If / when Telkom offloads its 50% Share in Vodacom... -> Then we are going to see some awesome movement in the Industry. I can guarantee you that if Telkom offloads its going to be to their disadvantage.

Hopefully they'll have to offload - dunno how their investors are gonna take to having their eggs in too many baskets. Especially with the baskets showing conflict of interests. Don't see them keeping a stake in Vodacom. When the mobile operators' business model changes to compete against its little-big daddy. Telkom's old mentality should hopefully have them pulling out, cos they can't fathom the idea of operating costs fluctuating on Vodacom's side and in so doing making a dent in Telkom's bottom line at the same time. They'll have to pull out of Vodacom cos shareholders are not going to have a firm grasp on what and where the earnings and losses are coming from. Hopefully :p

What would be the benefits of Telkom having money in a company that is aiming to compete and topple them? (hopefully :p ) or would it be another stretch at masking their monopoly? Anyone?

Either this shows just how fcuked up Voda/Telkom are, since they cant even agree within themselves or this is smoke and mirrors.

I think they are fcuked up.

I would certainly start thinking of ridding myself of Telkom shares if I had. Vodacom looks set to give them a right beating.
Hope they follow through and don't become as greedy as their shareholders. Telecoms has a vulture-culture.

GO FOR THE EYES VODACOM! FOR DE EYES! YYEEEEAAAAAARRRRRGGGGG!!! :D

Hehe. I don't love any telecoms company in SA, but my hate for Telkom surpasses all.
