Took my SE K810i into Vodacare today to be fixed.

The 3,6, and 9 buttons decided to work only now and then and the dedicated camera button no longer worked at all.

The guy at the shop opened the phone up and just behind where the battery slots in there is an indicator which turns from white to red if the motherboard has been exposed to 'moisture damage'. The indicator was red.

Now the guy explained to me that the warranty will not cover repairs if the phone has been exposed to moisture.

Now I have taken great care of this phone, only getting it like 6 months or so ago, and certainly didn't get it wet.

But the guy reckoned that this can happen even if you write an sms with sweaty palms or move from an air-conditioned environment suddenly to a hot one and condensation occurs. I thought it was strange that the warranty did not extend to situations such as these which are surely different from, say, dropping your phone in a puddle.

Apparently it will cost like R300 - R350 to be fixed. I am still waiting to hear the quote :(

Anyone had a similar experience?

Not to sound rude, but ....

LoL! Our CT air is moist enough in some cases to make that indicator go red right out of the box. :(

They declined my repair as well, water damage they said.

Never had it near a puddle or anything...

What can you do, they showed it to me and I saw some water damage. :(

I had the same thing with my Nokia N80 - had to pay a few hundred for the repairs because they claimed it had water damage. I went to to see, and they showed me a spot of corrosion a few mm away from the cable that needed replacing, and claimed that it caused the cable to fail. As marine1 said, how can you win that argument?

Try and make a racket on hellopeter, state your whole story and just keep logging more calls on hellopeter, they dont like the world to see what they try and get away with.

EXACT EXACT EXACT same thing is happening with my Nokia E51 which is about 4 months old.

I am waiting to hear their BS regarding liquid damage and then I'll explode. Phone is currently at the "Advanced Repair Centre"...
