Well what can you say about this?

Vodacom widgets are narrow minded

A while ago we had a press release on myDL concerning the Vodacom widget development competition.

The grand prize for creating the coolest and great widget was R 50 000.00. Not bad at all by any standards. Today I received the press release stating the winners and the widgets they created.

I am not going to publish it as a press release because I do not think that Vodacom deserves any "good" exposure for being narrow minded.

Results

The Winner

S3 Solutions, a 4-man team that developed a 2010 Soccer World Cup widget, which counts down the days and hours left until the kick-off of the first World Cup soccer match next year.

The Runner-up

Werner Pieterson, won an X-Box, for his widget, "Flogger", which aggregates all information from your car journey and assists in managing your car travel log.

????????????????????????????

Am I to believe that a fricking count down timer is a better widget than a mobile travel log?

You can only use the count down timer once, what happens to it after 2010? Surely the value in the mobile travel log is by far greater, has a longer life time and can grow in functionality over the next few months.

Is Vodacom so desperate to get a cut from the 2010 market that they will throw money at popcorn developments and call it great? I am so disappointed in this result. It took 4 guys to create a crap and totally useless widget. In the other corner we have Werner Pieterson who is ONE man that created something that could be used by a vast majority over a longer period of time.

Vodacom vision = FAIL
