If you login to vodacom4me and go to my account -> services -> modify services there's the usual list of products.

It does seem that something is missing as there are 2 of pretty everything but with different prices, take a look and you will see what I mean...

MyGig10 This Month Only (Adhoc) R 3900.00

MyGig10 This Month Only (Adhoc) R 4990.00

My Meg 20 Monthly (Bolt-On) R 28.00

My Meg 20 Monthly (Bolt-On) R 35.00

Same product different price, probably just the product names in your DB..

:)

This is obviously due to the price changes that come into effect on 2007-04-01, and the old data bundles will then fall away.

Isn't one price with a USB 3g/HSDPA modem and the other without ?

Sure guys, those are great assumptions but what I am saying is "Which one is which?"

A little renaming of the titles from Vodacom, not you, would help.

We sit with a legacy of 10 years worth of data product names. On top of this we had different bearer names (GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA).

As you rightly pointed out, a cleanup is needed and is in progress.

Actually, your input would be cool. A virtual beer (real one if you're a Mountain Goat) for the coolest data product name. :)

I've been thinking along a range of names, like you get with cars. 3 series, 5 series, etc. and within them the different engine sizes. 328 or 540, for example.

(PS. For the record, although great cars, don't take the above that I'm a BM fan...but then my daily transport is an 1150GS... :()

One thing that Vodacom should keep in mind, is the reaction of forumites to iBurst's imminently new packages & the brand name that iBurst chose, namely "Play" - otherwise known as Lame.

IMO MyMeg isn't too bad, and data customers should be used to this brand name by now, but there could be advantages in making a break from the MyMeg name and choosing something else, obviously the Data Bundle size needs to be appended or maybe size should be a prefix, i.e. 250MB, 500MB, 1024MB|1GB etc...

Maybe just keep the new name simple & rename "MyMeg x" to 'xMB|GB DataBundle', e.g. 500MB DataBundle.

<added>
IMO the most important thing that consumers want to see is the Data Bundle's size, and then the cost, so maybe putting the size as a prefix to the brand name would be psychologically advantageous to Vodacom.

I think MyMeg is pretty cool...why change it...

But todya I bought a bolt MyMeg 20 so I just chose the cheaper of the two because I am a cheapskate :) - Why pay more for the same product?

You also need to define in the MyMeg name whether it applies to GPRS, EDGE, 3G or HSDPA or are you gonna just charge the same amount regardless of your connection speed?

MyMeg GPRS 20MB Rand 20
MyMeg 3G 20 MB Rand 25
MyMeg HSDPA 20MB Rand 30

or straight up

MyMeg 20MB Rand 20 - Cheap!!

Data is data no? Conveniently I might be forgetting the cost of transmitting that data at different speeds.
