Aweh guys. This is quite a random question, but what would your estimates be for the development of the vodacome4me portal?

I understand that it ties into their billing/accounts system and the like, but impo thats pretty much an API-esq link that pulls the data and writes back to the main db.

The rest of the site with the pages, phone compare, support (KB system, ticket system, contacts) and their 'newsletter' promotions system.

I dont need to know to the cent, but an estimate from my fellow myadsl members would be nice. ZAR5mil ? ZAR10mil? 6months dev time? 1year? Team of 10 people? team of 20 people? etc.

Thanks :)

God knows that site could do with an overhaul...

I have an idea for them - to improve things a little.

These days with technology where it is, can they not have a link to your voice mail services so as a subscriber you could download your voice mail to PC. Surely they could implement it similar to DStv on Demand service? Wouldn't that be ayoba eh?

There are various ways in costing a portal, but the real cost of ownership to Vodacom would be a couple of million a month. They use Oracle and thats where the lions share of license fees go.

Vodacom is also a fragmented company when it comes to development so also really tough to say what developers where involved (and their salaries). I once developed an app for Vodacom callcenter staff to use and they where really impressed at how fast I got it up and running (two weeks in between other things) knowing that I was swamped with other work - so I think the developers dragged their feet.
