Maybe the answer is the fact that Telskom owns 50% of Vodacom.

Vodacom's 3G service is useless

I totally agree with VMS, and share the exact same views.
Any person relying on a paid service for business, must sooner or later do a reality check to see if that solution is cost effective.
3G is simply not a cost effective stable connection for business purposes.
This makes me extremely furious, because thats what the initial ad campaign was/is promising. The word misleading is an understatement.
If I knew when I signed up, that my year would entail baby sitting my 3G card, and watching blinking lights -I would have rather purchased my Chistmas tree early.
I have been so extremely patient because I really wanted 3G to succeed, but for me, it's time to do a reality check , if I could cancel the 3G contract I would. The time spent on vodacoms issues to help them resolve their problems (while we pay them for the next 24months) is simply robbing me of time I could be constructively putting into our business.
I can not picture a trouble free 3G service, it's impossible. If it's not the SMTP, then is the signal strength, if it's not one of those it's network congestion, if it's not the disco lights, it's the dashboard. These issues will take longer than 24 months to resolve!!
Until then 3g is a toy, backed with outstanding service levels
...here's looking to 4G and paving the way forward. (READ "PAYING" !)

Would like to get general feedback on throughput the last day or two?
Some of the upgrades have happened and another massive one on the internet links are due. Others are still awaiting Telkom.
The satellite station will be for internet connectivity.
Building our own infrastructure is definitely an option and is being investigated. It obviously is a massive project with many complications, for example right-off-way.
4G, WiMax or any other new technology will go through the same growing pains, i.e. new technology with a limited deployment and support history being deployed into a network where rapid growth is expected.

I can, in all honesty, state that in all my involvement with Vodacom I've not once seen Telkom interfere in Vodacom.
This is in no way an attempt to come up for Telkom!
Remember, Telkom sits on a board with the other shareholders and cannot force Vodacom to do anything that will have a negative impact on the Vodacom business or profitability.

I too have battled with 3G but have to say that finally I have it sorted, it works like a charm, I really cant complain. I am using it in TableView and Stellenbosch. May I suggest you call 082155 and ask to speak to Bond, he is the dude that helped me out with all my settings, one more try before you burn the card
