Oh lord... Another walka in the making. Some of us haz tv or PC.
Streaming Netflix at SD uses about 1gb per hour. From what I recall you peaked on mother's day at 29 Gigabits per second (13 050 gigabytes per hour) and your network suffered.
So to answer your question… hopefully less than 13050 at any given time.

Because this is simply a ploy to grow the customer base.. it will turn out to be a lemon.

Judging by the mobile coverage in my area, if one person within 3km of me watches a Netflix stream, everyone else connected to that antenna will get 0.1k/sec speeds.
in which case you don't need it to be zero rated mobile data - you haz DSL or fiber and wifi for that.
For Vodacom to in SA be able to target the VOD possibility for TV usage they will probably need to get STBs which perform an unintended download of sought content.
2 Reasons:
Netflix isn't in any country specifically. Netflix is 100% hosted on Amazon.
They prevent you from registering if you list your country as South Africa because they may not own the rights to air the content here.
They couldn't care less the amount of bandwidth used.
If fact when you pull data from Amazon they add all the data you use up. If the amount of data that was pulled from outside Amazon is more than the amount of data you put into Amazon, you pay nothing for the data.
Meaning Netflix doesn't pay anything for the data transfer and Amazon is making a lot of money from the ISPs that peer with them.
From Netflix perspective their only blocker is getting the rights which I assume is costly else they'd offer it here already.

Depending on the quality and how much you watch... yes.
But that was not what we were saying.... the issue is every single VC customer having a zero data rated service.
That day where they gave us all one gig free was a litmus test for that.... it failed IMHO

Like Bwana says... it will actually be worse.
On the day I lost connection to the VC network at about 11am and was reconnected at about 8pm... like most people I know. So I wouldn't say you had near 8 million concurrent connections.
Thanks for the data anyway... I got a 45 minute google hangout with my mom at 6am before the network fell over.
The rest of the day I was k@king myself because I was waiting for work to need me and then have to go home because of no internet connection.

The Vodafone deal requires a minimum £26-per-month plan which provides access to 3GB of data and only initially data is zero rated. The offer is expensive for European standards, considering that most fixed line operators such as Virgin UK or Sky offer fixed line data and digital entertainment for substantially less).
Remember that on Netflix you will burn around 1GB per hour for SD and about 3GB on HDD - so this will become unaffordable. That OOB-shark in SA is getting excited about such discussion
Netflix will not happen on Vodacom without a dramatic change in broadbrand pricing. Little birdie told me that there are currently two other large companies busy with VOD (this excludes the DSTV Boxoffice).

In the absence of real, sustainable offers Torrents and Newz will remain the best competitors to DSTV
Indeed 8 million of which probably only a tenth knew about the promotion and probably not even a tenth of those could deplete a measly 1 gig during the WHOLE day doesn't even compare to a video service that could use a couple gigs an hour. Vodacom still doesn't have a decent data offer.

They are aiming for just SD/SUB-SD streams this is why the spin expert mentioned smart device streaming instead "large devices". I would not be surprised looking at the **** state of dstv streaming.
Exactly, it requires more than a measly 50k voice without video or crappy Youtube video.
