Hi, can anyone help me on this one. I have a Vodafone 3G modem, but can't send emails via Outlook. I use my Mweb account. Receiving emails, but just can not send any.

What server are you using to send you mail?

You either have to use Vodacoms own smtp relay or you need to use Mweb's one. However - Mweb will not automatically allow you to send mail over their relay when you coming from the Vodacom network. You will need to ask Mweb the "SMTP Auth" settings for their server.

As ambo indicated you can do one of 2 things:

1) Simplest - go to the settings of your Outlook client and change the SMTP server setting to smtp.vodacom.co.za. Now you will be able to send mail when on the Vodacom network. However, if you connect on another network, you'll have to change the settings back to that network's settings.

2) Ask MWEB for their Authenticated SMTP server details (they do have one). Using this will allow you to send mail while on any network.

Does Vodacom's smtp server not require authentication?

And you can't see it from the outside (I hope!).
Just ran a test to see if smtp.vodacom.co.za is accessible using an ADSL ISP account, and my test message was sent [& received] - but not by smtp.vodacom.co.za - it appears as though there must be a CNAME setup somewhere...
