I have a Vodafone E172 dongle, and i have an Afrihost MTN data SIM card.

Any ideas as to how i can go about to set it up?

it would be nice to be able to track the data like the Vodafone mobile connect software does :D

You need to simply set up a new Connection Profile and set this as the default if you're going to continue using Afrihost.

The details that need to be entered are:

Static APN
APN: afrihost
Dial String: *99#

That's it!

Mobile Partner which the MTN software is, does track usage... How accurate this is I don't know! I use the Afrihost Client Zone to track my data...

Warning: Voodafone software (if installed from dongle) will not connect to network other than Vodacom. When installed on PC it will block other dashboard from accessing modem. You can install it, but go to the options and select two options:
- Do not start on startup
- Remove from Systray on exit
Then close the program. If you do it, you have drivers installed and you can use any third-party dashboard. Try MDMA http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...amp-USSD-amp-Monitors-Signal-Strength-Windows
Then follow previous post to change APN.

Everything for this modem is here: http://www.dc-files.com/files/huawei/modems/E173/
Options:
1. You can download generic Huawei Mobile Partner and install on PC
2. You can flash modem with generic Mobile Partner, so it will install from the dongle.

Luckily, MTN Huawei Mobile Partner other than being bright yellow, is not crippled as is the Vodabloat software. So setting extra profiles is quite easy. You can also use Cell C Huawei Mobile Partner.

Going with the unbranded version often leaves you with a huge version of Mobile Partner taking up oodles of HDD space!

Installing Vodafone software is akin to the self-install of a virus package! :wtf:

Download Windows executable, insert modem (but don't allow to install Vodafone bloatware - press and keep SHIFT key to suppress autorun), run program, say YES to the prompt. But don't interrupt, as it would brick device. Flashing is always on your risk!
