VodaFone Live System Upgrade

1) These prices are interim pricing till the proposed tariffs are passed by ICASA and were picked to be very close to the current data rates, i.e. you would have paid about the same on a 3G contract.

2) Taking the substantial royalties paid to the content providers in consideration, these prices are actually sharper than the current data rates.

3) I believe the final pricing will be (substantially) sharper.

4) When comparing with services like Multichoice, remember you're paying a few hundred rand/month subscription. With VLife there is no subscription.

(Except for MrG, who watched BBC all the time), is there a need for long-term viewing? I.e. what will your viewing profile be like?

Of course the above will be skewed when the adult channels launch.

Maxim late night seems to be on the cards.

anyway. I wish we could have once of(per month) payment of lets say R150 and thats it. but i geuss that will be in the future.

All the time  , the longest I have watched BBC was a drive from my home to Paarl, about 50minutes... and that was something interesting to do while driving (Family was driving, not me) ;)

E! Entertainment, I dont think you will watch for ONLY 10 Minutes. I watch that channel alot more than 10 minutes on DSTV. :D

DSTV is R400

R229 for M-NET and R171 for DSTV
R171 divide say 50 Channels
These are the only ones I can think of right now:
MM1,MM2,Hallmark,Action X,TCM,S1 - 8,ESPN,KykNet,Series,TellyTrack,BBC Prime,Reality,BBC World,SABC1-3,E-TV,BBC WORLD,CNN,SKY,BLOOMBERG,CNBC,Summit,Parliment Live, History,Discovery,National geo, Animal Planet, Food, Fashion TV, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, M-TV,VH1,M-TV Base
R3.42 per channel ALL DAY EVERY DAY FOR ONE MONTH... now I am not saying Vodacom should have that price, but somethin like what we said above, if Multichoice can do it Vodacom can do it with a slight increase due to not having a subscription etc, but then also give a subscirption option.

i.e If I want to watch a hour show on E! Entertainment, or watch BBC News when something happens, I dont want to watch 10 minutes of the coverage for R10, R1 per minute

I do hope I am not the only person with these views, it was fantastic how we had the BBC World. You have no idea how good I fealt about Vodacom when I saw the new VLive menu and channels, but then saw the R10 per day, so I thought hmm, thats ok, but then 10MINUTES... I did not know to think of it as a joke a error by the team on the website, or what, because with those tariffs, its going to be like DSL, you have a large pipe, but gotta pay per gig to use it.

End statement:
The service that is being offered it world class and wonderful, however in a thrid world country 1st nobody will be able to actually afford paying that, if they wanted to watch TV they could simply pay Multichoice R12 per day to watch ALL DSTV + M-Net Channels.

The only reason someone might want to use the service is for news if something big happens, which in turn would be cheaper to just use your phone browser and access cnn.com. Also given that BBC or any News Service is currently online.

20% Rating
Pro: Brilliant Service, watch TV while mobile
Cons: Priced out of everyone's league, need to get a 3G phone

I agree mate.

Though one thing i am keeping an eye on is in the preview they showed HBO and FOX, and there is already Chilli. And there are Soaps that we cant get either. Now this will put pressure on DStv me thinks. Especially if Comedy Centre or MTV2 comes along. Just the price is madness. But im sure the guys at Vodacom realise this. And MTN will offer competition as they will be launching there HSDPA next year, so probably before then it will happen with them as well. Not to mention Cell C.

Yes, remember I did say the service is excellent, and HBO etc, I am really excited, but you cant watch HBO for R10 per 10 Minutes, as you said above

what is it then?

The cost of the service is overprices, that is what I said
I dont quite understand what you are asking

Well, I will be really happy to see Fox and HBO, that is really wonderful, but how are we going to afford to watch a show or movie?

The new VLive is increadible slow for me ... on SE V800 with 3 bar 3G signal.

the same for me. i think they are making the change regarding HSDPA aswell probably. Sometimes i just cant get in.
