Not sure about this but maybe the price has a little something to do with it. Not much you can download with isdn speeds while sharing your connection with 15 other people. There have been options elsewhere in the world but because they were priced similar to adsl at ±300 most of those companies no longer exist.

Funny that where it's not too expensive too compete they kill it off with slow speeds and stupid contention ratios. EDIT: and as always the mandatory 2 or 3 year contract.

There were/are other more affordable services. Siyanda was one, I believe.

When I looked at them at the time (a while ago, I must admit), they were relatively well priced.

Anything close to the European pricing I quoted above?
Think they disappeared with the likes of MegaWan and Wisp. If I remember correctly the price was just under R300 for a one way connection with 3GB cap.

There was a lot of hype leading up to the launch of these services and when they arrived they were essentially dead goats. If someone launched a cheap service with a high cap they can take a large share of the market but the only ones with licenses are Telkom, Sentech and now Neotel. All the others including the wireless providers were essentially operating without a license and under the "if Telkom can't provide it we can" assumption which wasn't 100% correct. The same answer as always, no competition.

It doesn't even establish a data connection - it just says "No Software Update available" when I go to "Software Update" and try to "Update Now"
Strange. Should at least give an error if it can't connect. Make sure your access point(s) is configured correctly. If there is a specific option for the software update then set it to the correct options. If you are using the vlive access point by default set it to use the internet access point instead and disable the proxy. Vodacom's proxy has trouble letting anything past 6-8MB through and some updates are in the region of ~20MB.

If everything fails it's probably a software bug which may or may not be branding specific and you'll have to flash it manually if that option is available or take it in. You might want to try resetting it to the factory defaults before doing that as an update will erase all data anyway so also make a backup of your data.

Whats with the vlive apn ? Its not working for me at all.come on vodacom ! Dont you want my money ? Lol i keep getting data server not available.it doesnt connect to any sites.

@Prometheus the problem is not that it is unable to connect but rather that it doesn't make any attempt to connect:(Anyway my apn is usually always set to internet and no other application has any problem connecting.

Well you support the wrong football team to start with.....;)

Got no idea what happened here. Sometimes these things happens but before we can figure out why, we need to know what changed.

Give 155 a call and explain to them what happened. They can then check your profile to see what changed. Let us know what they come up with.

I know from experience that you can use a new sim card with both the internet and the vlive apn without activating or provisioning anything. The only reason this should not work is if it was purposefully blocked.
