Can someone advise on this? I'm coming for a holiday in South Africa and have used Vodacom's data services there before (not too shabby!). But I've lost my datacard, so I'll need to buy a modem dongle. In the UK they go for about £35 and in SA for around £100 (oi!). I was thinking I'd buy a Vodafone (UK) Huawei E220 and simply put in a Vodacom (SA) sim card when I got there. Will this work, or must I buy an unlocked modem for that to work?

Most of the 3G modems from the UK are locked but you should be able to unlock them online from one of these sites (costs about 15 Euros) provided that the model (Huawei E160, E220 etc.) is supported.

Try to purchase a suitable modem in the UK as prices in SA are not competitive. Take a look over here for some ideas ...

First try to identify this Vodafone modem to see whether or not it can be unlocked ...
