Voicy does Norway

It looks really cold but so awesome.
I have always wanted to live in a small town far away from busy cities. Maybe one day.
It looks so cold!

Stunning pics though!

Yeah it does get cold, but ironically I got colder in CT winters than I do here...the CT winds gets in everywhere and our SA houses aren't insulated. Here even my bathroom floor is at a toasty 25DegC. It gets so hot inside that I often sleep with my window open in minus temps or on top of my duvet. It's only cold if you stay outside...but clothing makes all the difference.

Looks amazing. Please keep updating the thread, always enjoy reading personal accounts like these.

How have you found the Norwegians?

They're friendly but private...even more so than the Germans. Its been REALLY difficult to make friends here.

This took some getting used to here - felt strange just leaving the house and shutting the door...no alarms, extra security gates, leaving the outside light on at night.

It's the strangest thing. At my local coffee shop people even leave their babies in prams outside with their shopping and handbags hanging on it while they have coffee inside. (Yeah the leaving babies outside in the cold while wrapped up is apparently normal and considered healthy for the kids)

People often leave their cars idling outside to heat up or when they go into shops. Here's an audi I found outside a grocery shop, keys in the ignition, car idling. Owner nowhere to be seen.

Dear lord! That is hectic! I dont know if I would be able to learn another language.

Fortunately I already speak 3 other languages, so it's helped a bit in getting to learn this one. You already speak 2 so I don't see the big deal. Also, you're kinda forced to learn it being surrounded by it all day so it's not so bad.

Here's a normal driving school car.

You know a country is winning at life when the petrol station is half empty, but all the Tesla charging bays are occupied. You can even take a tesla taxi from most airports. It's ridiculously cool to see.

That is soooooooo beautiful! One of my best friends lives in Arendal. You're not perhaps gay, Voicy? :p

ok.

you just made me want to move there. like ASAP.

how difficult do you think it would be, for a web dev to find a job there and for an SEO and Marketing person to get a job.

I believe I can learn the language, I already listen to mostly Viking metal.

I am 100% serious, I want have wanted to move to a Scandinavian country for years, just never had the guts to look more into it

As beautiful as it is there. (Yes including the women)

There was a reason the Vikings wanted to broader their horizons. Just remember that.

I think it might have been the weather. But that's just me.

What is the language barrier like? Do most of them speak and understand English? Do they have signs and docs in English?

I work for a Norwegian company but based in their CPT office. (Also offices in Arendal, Oslo, Vinstra, Kristiansand and Lillehammer)
We work as one team and everyone communicates in English.
80% of them are perfectly fine with English but there are some who struggles a bit and others who just doesn't bother.

Same applies to the customers I sometimes have to communicate with.

EDIT: I do have to use Google translate for docs and emails quite often :P but have learnt quite a lot of Norwegian in the past two years working for the company.

I don't have the self confidence to be gay. I wouldn't be able to deal with being constantly rejected by girls AND guys. :/ Besides, if I was, then my heart would belong to RocketBoy or oclerouxenator. :D

I'm no marketing expert, but this looks like a crappy advertisement.

"One does not simply read Road Signs into Mordor." ... tunnels. Tunnels EVERYWHERE. Longest one I've been in is 12km long and the longest in the country is around 18km I think. The one in Stavanger even goes 264m under the sea between 2 islands.

Norwegian traffic light. Stoopid Reindeer. But really, there isn't a single stop sign or traffic light on this whole island, everything is circles or yield signs...and no accidents.

The best thing in Norway. A statoil cup. You buy a cup every year for R400 and then you can refill it for free at every Statoil petrol station free of charge for the entire year. If you don't have one, it'll cost you R40 per cup.

Ice is EXTREMELY dangerous. You WILL slip, fall and bust your ass. Happened to me on 3 occasions before I went out and bought spikes for my shoes. 2nd best purchase after my statoil cup.

that's absolutely awesome.

One of the guys in our gaming clan is from Norway and he sent pictures all the time and they were just absolutely awesome and the lifestyle just seemed to awesome to live with. I want to really go and visit Norway (preferably do a boat cruise through Scandinavia). The wife though hates the cold and so she always opts for beach holidays :(

Make sure to try the Surströmming! It's Swedish but you should be able to find in Norway.

I'm fairly certain you work for the same place as my friend did. He was supposed to come to Cape Town 2 years ago but he didn't

Just go to Norway in the summer then (our winter). The temperatures are comparable to ours, maybe you can convince her because it'd be winter here but summer there.
