While this is an American article, I have received a few emails regarding the deterioration of voice quality with VOIP applications like Skype when using ADSL. Your feedback in this regard will be very valuable.

I think the question is not if Telkom will do the same, but when. Does anybody really think that they have integrity?

Haven't noticed anything like that yet.

VOIPed a friend in North Carolina (USA) yesterday and it worked fine.

On the other hand, I VOIPed a cousin of mine in Israel today and it sucked. It was the first time I VOIPed to Israel though, so I dunno what to expect in the first place.

Cheers
Antowan

Try SkypeOut to an SA number. I called my answering machine downstairs. I could hear my recorded message clearly but when I listened to the message I left, it was just static. Calls to the UK cell networks work well though

I'm using it to Germany via sipgate or gmx and after hours and over the weekends it is fine - but during the day it is very bad - maybe due to havy traffic...

My VOIP experience is generally pretty good, on occassion the quality is not that great when calling mobile phones.

Skype. My Experience so far.

Hello Members,

So far I have spoken to a friend in Adelaide, Australia with no hiccups.
They are using ADSL as well like me. Only a small delay and sometimes we might talk over each other, because of it. The sound is clear and crisp.

I spoke to my brother in Baku, Azerbaijan and that connection is hit and miss, but I think the problem lays on his side and the offices network their.

Skype can be downloaded here.
As at 16 February 2005 - 71,227,223 downloads. Quite incredible.
