Hi

Looking for a decent VOIP phone for my mother in law.

They just moved over to Mweb fibre and want to kick telkom to the curb.

Mainstream stores don't seem to know what VOIP even is...

I've seen WiFi Voip phones before, they aren't cheap though.

Doesn't need to be wifi VOIP... from what I know it's a headset and a base station that you just plug into your router....

the ones(routers) I've seen are a normal phone with a phone cable from the phone to the router.

G-A510IP (costs around R1600)
Gigaset Entry level handset and basestation
Dual mode: easy switch from Internet to fixed line mode (VoIP and PSTN)
Expandable phone system with multi-line functionality for up to 6 handsets and 6 SIP accounts
Up to 3 calls in parallel: 2 Internet calls or 1 fixed-line call + 2 Internet calls
Easy configuration via web interface or from handset

G-A540H (costs around R900)
Gigaset Entry level handset
Plug & play
Stand-alone base with attractive handset
1,8” display with 4 colour schemes
Embedded SIP VoIP with codecs: G.711, G.722, G.726
Auto-fallback to PSTN, if the phone cannot establish a VoIP connection

The Yealink W52P is an excellent handset. I've seen it take a battering and still keep ticking along.

Yealink is one of the best, if not the best.

Portal always online and voice quality useable. FNB voip gets low marks for both.

I have a gigaset phone with two handsets, and use voip through Cool Ideas. Extremely happy with both choices.

local supplier?

thanks guys.

Anyone know what MWEB's Talk service is like? I see they offer free VOIP if you an already existing MWEB customer, whereas the likes of Cool Ideas charge you R89/month

Jeezus, R89 is steep, is that for the service only(in coming with number as well?) and calls excluded?

I just need outgoing calls, prepaid minutes.
