Hi

Am I correct in saying that using VOIP to make local calls is not worth the effort? I know international calls work out much cheaper to justify its use. Its biggest advantage to me is VOIP to VOIP calls. I don't think its possible to provide better rates without using "grey" lines in SA.

That said does anyone know of a reputable/legal VOIP providers in SA that can provide better cellphone and landline rates within SA?

Cheers

Well Telkom have the closer options now, so I can make free calls after hours for free anyways, so maybe not in that sense, but you have to pay for the subs. But then again the bandwidth is also payable.

voxtelecom can give you this:

local calls:
Telkom: 0.33 per minute, Vox: 0.31

National calls
telkom 0.70, Vox: 0.53

International calls (average)
telkom 1.49, Vox: 0.47

Mobile calls:
Telkom: 1.65, Vox: 1.28

this can be even less on Vox if you make a hell of a lot of calls (bulk discount) but this is the normal packages you can get.
