My friend bought a brand new polo vivo in June this year.first his gearbox packed up(apparently there was not enough oil in the gearbox) and it was replaced.Monday on his way to work his car overheated and Volkswagen notified him that it was the head gasket and it needs to be replaced, all of this in less than a month !:erm:

Hellopeter is full of horror stories, mostly the polo vivo and the workmanship of Volkswagen mechanics.

Is the quality of Volkswagen cars deteriorating or is it only the vivo that is build in S.A?

The vivo is horrible. I've been saying this since it has come out. If you want a polo, buy a new polo polo or a second hand polo with the older lights when it was still built to the standards of a polo and not to a citi golf. But really that car sounds like a dud or he is useless at maintainance. And the head gasket after a month? He clearly doesn't change out of first....that would also explain the gearbox.

To answer you question...It's the vivo.

You're always going to get that one guy that gets all the bad luck with a particular brand. Don't let it discourage you from Volkswagen. It's the most popular brand in s.a for a reason. I agree with the new polo though. Mine has 32000 km on the clock and it doesn't even have so much as a rattle.

Pretty much this. I myself prefer Volkswagen but the Vivo is a definite no-go. If you can't afford a normal Polo, rather go for another brand than settling for a Vivo.

The Vivo is not a real Polo.

For any car, a gearbox and head gasket should not be a problem in one month of ownership. Give it back demand a new one!!
I wouldn't allow then to his the gearbox on a brand new car less than a month old.

He did demand a new car but they refused,Their is excuse is it will cost them less to replace the parts than to replace the car.How is it possible that the guys at uitenhage did not put enough oil in the gearbox? is the process not automated by machines? or are these cars produced to fast to keep up with demand?

either way,i am glad I'm not in his shoes!

That darn DELIVERY FEE you pay when purchasing a new vehicle....
Your vehicle is transported with half filled fluids. When at the stealerships they do an inspection and top up all fluids so maybe the monkey checking your buds vehicle did half a job...

DELIVERY FEE my a*&e yeah...........

Sorry, but that is not acceptable, and your friend has the weight of the CPA behind him to back him up!

As most people know, I'm in the motor industry, and that sort of failure can happen to any car...however, when it does, you are looking at replacing and not mending.

Cheap Skoda gearboxes was imported too keep price price under
standard Vivo price Got a 60thou Vivo with crappy boxR26,000 to repair.

Welcome back.

Two things come to mind when I read this...

1. That the Polo Vivo isn't a real Polo and that "new" doesn't really mean all that much when it's old crap that's been re-employed.

2. How did your friend's previous cars fare? Or is this his first...because that would also say a whole lot and I'm not so sure I would lay it at VW's doorstep in that case.

After four years I'd hope the car behaved

I personally think he drives his car like a rental.
Shouldn't affect the car .I drove all my cars to their potential off the showroom floor and never had a problem (I have a warranty for a reason).
Maybe he jus had bad luck but both of them are potentially in the wrong (Him not checking the oil and them not filling up car according to specification )
