VoLTE explained - Better voice calling on 4G

Like I mentioned in another thread, I battled to get this switched on in the first place (Vodacom) ... and when I managed, it halved my battery life. So after a few weeks I called in to switch it off again.

Unsure where the issue lay though.

Strange. I'll be monitoring my battery but with my VoLTE enabled things seem fine

Vodacom?

I couldn't work out if the handset (Huawei Mate 10 Pro) or the network, but I do know that even when the VoLTE software was installed, it will still took multiple calls for it to work.

Eventually I needed to get Vodacom management to assist.

My VoLTE has been interesting. Im on MTN. Yesterday morning immediately when I woke up a VoLTE icon came up in my notification bar. Did some research and found out what it is. Yeh. Battery seems fine. Im on a Huawei p20 lite

Are you billed for the data used (4G) or does the call cost include it?

Interesting, as we now get a 'Voice HD' button on our LG as well when dialing out so this is propably the 4G if available.

I have tried to get VoLte and VoWifi to work on my phone this week, with no luck. My wife is in the same contract (vodacom) and phone (IPhone7), and it is working for quite a while now. I have called 135(friendly lady, but could not solve problem) and been to the vodashop(bad service. The guy continued to help a customer with an upgrade before finishing with me, leaving me like a fool). The agents don't seem to be knowledgeable about these services. And yes, calling over wifi as well as 4g is activated on my phone. Interesting, while browsing through the services available, I saw a setting, "Vpn inhibitor". Not activated for me, but it seems as if they can block the use of Vpn on your network. Not a good thing for privacy.
Don't worry about Vpn inhibitor. VPN is used internally on your phone during WiFi offloading, it must be enabled.

VoLTE works on Vodacom on selected phones, top range only, not mainstream phones that have this feature enabled (according to the spec sheet). VoWiFi even worse, servis in being interrupted every few weeks. You can't depend on it while going overseas. Get a supported phone on Cell C, at least it works on Cell C.

iPhone 7 is included in this though, so should work on Vodacom. But judging from my Huawei Mate 10 Pro (also compatible) it's a hit and miss affair on Vodacom.

I've been with Vodacom since forever and happy with speed and software, but I'm starting to think that something is amiss with their network.

VoLTE is flakey ... They're two software updates behind other networks on my phone ... One my remote apps can't dial home where other networks can.

Anyone know if Vodacom's VOLTE/VOWIFI are down? Mine hasn't been working for the past couple days. Is it just me.. ? Tnx
