Vox ADSL Special - 4 Dec

I'm so tempted but I have not heard good things regarding latency while gaming......

The problem is there is nobody at Vox who knows about games, so you can't exactly talk the same language to them. Some in the call centre even say that gaming is not recommended.

My own experience is that gaming is quite poor.

A Colleague phoned them this morning, and after being directed 4 times to someone in the sales department, the call got cut.
Thereafter, he tried again and left his number with them and no one got back to him yet...

Is this how crappy their support is as well?

My gaming experience has been stellar.
Lower latency than AH and no packet loss.

does it make a difference when you only have data with an ISP, in terms of latency? If your exchange is congested, would it make a difference?

Exchange congestion is not in the ISPs hands.

1 bad experience does not make an isp.

It doesn't describe everyone in support, but it's clear they don't spend a lot or devote a lot of time to support.

One niggling thing is that you get multiple people dealing with a problem and you have to explain everything over again.

Another is that you might interact with one person for hours, but then he hasn't logged a fault ticket. There is reluctance to do so - perhaps because they feel it affects the company's reputation (over defensive).

Communication between the network people and the 1st line support is also poor.

I'm not saying they are any worse than other ISP's, just relating my own experience.

Electric is not in Cape Town, where it appears most problems seem to be, hence his rabid defence and fanboism.

Please stop.
People are asking questions here and I am answering them.
If you can't refrain from personal attacks all the time then you are clearly pointing out your trolling self.
Please just stop.
I said nothing to you but you choose to be rude to me.
Just stop.

It's totally uncalled for.
Either give feedback or just keep quiet.

Mine hasn't been too great. Sometimes it works and other time it's quite terrible. Haven't logged a ticket though.
That's a good summary for me as well. It's also frustrating that pockets of CT have different experiences as well, so it's hard to pinpoint the problem to a location.

I have found their support rather good. They however seem to have a lot of ready made excuses which almost always point to the fault being on your side. Will not even talk about their mobile app that does not work lol.

Okay to answer other questions.

1) This is a great deal as long as you are not a gamer or wanting to stream TV from providers like showmax.
They definitely do throttle/shape during peak hours. Tested it between different ISPs to ensure it was nothing to do with congestion on my line or too many devices connected to my router etc.

2)Also be warned month to month for them is cancel and you must give a months notice no-matter when you cancel. It may sound obvious, but a lot of us assume month to month means if I cancel this month the contract ends at the end of the month. This is not how vox operate.

I used a 4mb line and had an average international ping of 220 to the UK, 29 to JHB and 60 to DBN. Considering I was in KZN I was rather disappointed with this fact.

A day after signing with them I lodge my first complaint as Showmax streaming was dismal or non-existent during peak periods. Their explanation was I had too many devices connected to my router. 4 cellphones. Disconnected them during peak times and the problem remained. The excuse from vox remained the same even though I provided them with all the normal traceroutes etc.

The result I cancelled showmax, not a big loss and realised what I had considered normal internet from my previous service provider was way above average by vox's standards. Again I want to stress, the services in not bad for a shaped produced but it is definitely not full line speed all the time. As for the free nigh time internet. Shaped is not the word to describe it!
It is simply dead slow, and I have been an openweb client before, so when I say dead slow you know that I know what throttled to hell is all about.
So be warned all that glitters is not gold, and adding the term Fat Pipe to a product does not mean it is fast. Their description of the product and the real product are two different things.

I hate to be called a fanboy but once again this is not my experience.
I'll gladly show you how fast my line runs after 12 and in general.
I've never been shaped and get 100% line speed.
What is the problem with the mobile app? It works fine for me.
Fatpipe is the right description in my opinion.

There are enough people posting here to indicate Vox service is erratic, again that is not a bad thing but if you want to stream or do online gaming it is bad.

I don't understand that statement though.
All I do is stream and game flawlessly.
I game every evening on VOX for around 2hrs and we stream at the same time from 3 devices.

It's a pity really, 40Mb VDSL is great :D
<--- as you stated elsewhere
I doubt whether you would notice any gaming issues on that line.
