I have the following config:

DSL 384K
Netgear DG834GT Router
Wireless network at home running to main pc, laptop etc, no wired network
Bit Defender Internet Security

I want to know what to do to enable me to remotely control my PC when I'm not at home. It's always on, and I may want to add a torrent into cue, add a NZB, grab a pic off remotely etc.

How, if possible, can I do this? And also have protection?

Any help would be appreciated.

The way I'd do it would be to do something like this:

1) Get yourself a DynDNS account, so that you can link your IP address to a hostname.
2) Download TightVNC and run the server-side on your home PC.
3) Add VNC as an exception to your router's firewall (check this site)
4) Connect to your hostname via the client-side application on the remote PC

This isn't especially secure, but it should suffice for what you need to do. If you set up a strong password server-side then you don't need to worry too much

EDIT: You'll probably also have to set TightVNC as a trusted application in BitDefender

Yes, you will have full access to said PC

I'm not sure, though I suspect that it won't, unfortunately.

Seems to be working fine on local only conn, now just need to get the laptop back so that I can try access pc remotely.
