Anyone using a vpn service for their home on here?

Is it legal in SA?
Any recommended vpn services for speed and reliabillity?
Would the vpn service work on Cell C 4G?
Is it really worth it at the end of the day?

Thanks :D

What is your end goal for a VPN? Depending on your needs a smart DNS service might be a better option.

Can't see why it wouldn't be legal.

I use StrongVPN on my android box for Netflix. It's been working well for the 4/5 months I've been using it. :)

If you use unsecured networks, ie: hotels, public hotspots , and torrents its essential.

Depending on your goal....but ExpressVPN and NordVPN are two of the better options for anonymity and security
Yes, it is 100% legal...but the anonymity doesn't allow you to use it for illegal activities (downloading movies and music etc.)

So you say I must trust some company sitting in the middle of nowhere with all my information, why not just use a trust worthy ISP.

ISPs log an incredible amount of data.
Build your own VPN if you're concerned about your data sitting on servers that you don't own.

Sure, if you do your own thing go for it. But I'm not gonna route all my traffic through some company apparently somewhere in the Bohamas. If my ISP leak any of my information it will be the end of them, and if you ever get a warning, it is not the end of the world. Just ignore it. So will they.

Yes, NO company can be trusted 100% with your information....as evident with the whole Facebook saga. If you use a VPN service it is to be used to hide your real IP from outsiders and just have an extra layer of protection from hackers for instance.

A VPN Service would perhaps only.....under extreme circumstances....give your information to authorities if you are being investigated for criminal activities.....same as your ISP.

The risks are also about where your ISP or VPN service is located...some countries offer stricter privacy laws than others and your information will be more secure in these countries.

The purpose I suppose is not WHAT you are hiding...but WHO you are hiding from.

Which brings me back to my first point, there is no need for a VPN when torrential. My IP leads to my ISP. IF your ISP forwards you a warning, just ignore it. If you want real privacy or security, a VPN service helps ZERO.

Not sure if you are asking advice or permission? But if the agenda is torrenting and you want security....my advice is don't use torrents....not only is it illegal, but it is extremely risky.

I am dumbfounded by the fact that you are seeking anonymity....but declare your intent on a public forum.

Currently downloading may or may not be legal but torrenting also contains an element of uploading with could be considered as being distribution. Makes sense to avoid any potential legal hassles if one wants to torrent.

You might want to revisit this thread - https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/932014-Do-people-still-torrent-movies-in-South-Africa - do yourself a favour and ignore your off topic contributions to it. ;)

I'm not looking for anything. I'm just saying there is no need for a VPN service when torrenting. That's it.

Your advice is irrelevant...you are promoting illegal activities and steering a legit question in a dangerous direction.
