Your advice is irrelevant...you are promoting illegal activities and steering a legit question in a dangerous direction.

You are talking absolutely rubbish. Show me where I have promoted anything illegal? You need to learn to read.

Which brings me back to my first point, there is no need for a VPN when torrential. My IP leads to my ISP. IF your ISP forwards you a warning, just ignore it. If you want real privacy or security, a VPN service helps ZERO.

What's this then?
You are wrong....your IP leads to your router....that's all I need to initiate a hack

If you have to ask this question, I suggest you go and learn more about torrenting before you use it - https://www.informationsecuritybuzz.com/articles/torrenting-know-risks-take/

With a VPN service, you might be able to hide behind an anonymous IP....but it doesn't protect you from downloading malicious files.

YOU posted this link: https://www.informationsecuritybuzz.com/articles/torrenting-know-risks-take/

I am just restating what it says:

"However, courts have ruled that IP addresses do not constitute identities, so the best course of action to take if one receives a settlement letter is to ignore it. The letter most likely won’t have a name on it. If the troll receives a response, it will have an identity, which gives it more leverage."

In other words, YOU are promoting illegal activities, according to your reasoning.

That should be read as a warning....not advice. Trolls can be malicious....like ransomware

Thanks for the replies but the thread turned into something else. If you are doing anything illegal behind a VPN you deserve to be caught. The main purpose why law abiding citizens want to use a vpn is simply to encrypt the data moving between their network and the intended destination, also decrease risk of malware infection and online profiling that tracks and identify you via locations etc by your ip address. It ads an extra layer of protection to prevent your network being compromised as it happens more and more these days, especially for the average person that does not sit on a torrense site download crap.

My apologies....went off topic there...but you are right...VPN service used for protection is becoming a necessity....just another layer on the onion
