Hello,

What software is available (freeware / opensource preferably) that will allow me to connect securely to my home PC from the office? Assuming of course that both PC’s are on and online.

Newbie Question: Do these products allow you to connect from inside a company network i.e. through the firms firewall to your PC directly. Or do they assume two PC's on the end of two ISP type connections?

There could alot of questions regarding this.

Do you have Linux at home? If so use OpenVpn.
OpenVpn you can configure Proxy setting on the client side.

If you use windows at home, try one of the products mentioned earlier.

I saw somewhere on the forums Teamviewer being recommended. I installed it yesterday and connected to my home pc from work this morining. Excellent, all i can say! Easy to setup and cant believe it got throught the firewalls at work. I assume its cause i set it up to use port 80 too.

Give this a try, its does not expire, just google for it. You wont try anything else.

openvpn runs fine on windows and is free.

it is not very easy to set up, but it does give you control over everything.
